7:00am....lol... looking forward to his hot take on tee times.

ChrisWoj 04-27-2021 09:55 AM

Provided one generally gets normal cycles of sleep, a single night short on sleep should not impact performance. Now, if he's been getting poor sleep for the past week enjoying himself, and then he fails to get a good night directly before the event because of the early tee time.... that's a different story. Basically: if Brodie treats things like a professional then 7am won't mess with him.

txmxer 04-27-2021 11:11 AM

Shouldn’t affect performance, he’s an “influencer”. His opinion is required.

Mild take incoming:

A couple of times this spring I've bumped into or seen Brodie while I was out practicing. Each time he was quietly practicing alone, with no entourage, video crew, etc. He was just another player putting in the time to get better and to learn the course, the same as anyone.

Don't believe everything you see on YouTube.

What? Who a person is portrayed to be in the media isnít exactly who they really are?

Mild reaction take: I donít think anyone whoís actually watched a good selection of his YouTube content would doubt that heíll always put in the work. Thatís very much a part of what he puts out there, and even people who have fallen out with him say that he is focused and hard working.

Most of what rankles people about him is about what he consciously chooses to communicate about the game, and I donít think one can fault people for being mildly rankled. He's making a living by fostering ďengagementĒ, and his brand of doing that is designed around portraying himself as cocky.

I think the real issue here isn't "who a person is portrayed to be in the media" but is really "who a person portrays themselves to be in the media."

It's not ESPN posting hot takes, those words are coming out of Brodie's mouth/brain.

I think at this point even the people who doubted Brodie are acknowledging that he's putting in legitimate work.

It's hard not to notice.....

He makes dang sure we know what he's doing and how hard he's working at this. I'm convinced he'd quite literally shove it down our throats given the chance.

You donít have to watch. Kind like cakeóyou donít have to eat it.

Hampstead 04-27-2021 09:53 PM

I don't watch Brodie and I don't eat cake.

I'm comfortable with my choices.

Dude....watch youtube much? People making big money just recording themselves working. From lawncare to video game restorations..

Face it...He is going to stay on your lawn....then mow your lawn while recording a "before and after" youtube video....get views and advert dollars.....and make more money then you

ChrisWoj 04-28-2021 12:26 AM

I'm just gonna leave this here.

Will there be a "Get Freaky" remix? :p

txmxer 04-28-2021 03:27 AM

There is an “ignore “ option.

In the recommended videos, there are three dots, click on that, select don’t show this recommendation.

He will no longer be able to insert himself in to your throat.

I agree; I was stating the more general idea. I considered saying "who a person is portayed to be in (social) media isn't who they really are".

Rastnav 04-28-2021 08:35 AM

At the top, I agree that simply broadly not engaging with Brodie's content is the proper response if he irritates someone.

However, if you follow pro disc golf, are interested in the scene as a whole, you are going to be exposed to him. Want to avoid Brodie? He is in content that McBeth puts out, gets interviewed on ShowMez, gets put on feature cards, gets mentioned frequently by other pros, his merch is popping up when you look for discs, any Zone was sold out everywhere for a while (before the general disc shortage), etc.

That’s attenuating over time, and much of it will stop altogether unless he starts making top cards. But out of the gate he definitely wasn’t particularly ignorable.

Heck, this thread is going to keep popping up in the list of “New DG posts” even he doesn’t make the top cards.

So, the sense that it’s not quite so easy to ignore him isn’t necessarily misplaced.

autocrosscrx 04-28-2021 09:09 AM

I'm not very good at most things disc golf.

One place where I shine is avoiding content that doesn't interest me. Sometimes it gets a little confusing (ex: I love Zach Melton content, but hate Eric Oakley content), but I can usually make a determination and stick to it.

Right there with ya. I curate the snot out of my computer and internet experience. I've got three ad blockers and tracking blockers running in parallel, and I always go into the options on sites and stuff to turn off as much intrusive garbage as I can, and so on. My life is mostly devoid of unwanted beeps, chimes, and pop-up on-screen notifications. Its pretty nice.

Sometimes I see what other people experience of the internet when I look over their shoulders or they show me something on one of their phones or computers. It's barbaric. How can anyone live like that?

I don't go to that effort. I've spent my entire life ignoring the demands of others, so that kind of stuff doesn't bother me. Chime away if you must. :D

I just find it pretty easy to make a determination of whether I want to watch disc golf content. And I'm willing to change my strategy. Like the Jomez coverage where the FPO were throwing to a spot. I found it really interesting for a couple rounds, then I didn't. So I clicked stop.

ChrisWoj 04-28-2021 09:45 AM

1. I just hit "Do not allow" anytime anything asks to send me notifications. I do not click any notification bells on YouTube.

2. Somehow I manage to completely avoid Brodie content. How? Dunno. I just stopped watching his stuff months ago and it no longer recommends it to me. This despite the fact that I watch disc golf content daily. I just checked - I actually AM subscribed to him. I'm subscribed to 75 things on YouTube and I rarely if ever see his stuff in my recommended content.

3. Get Funky.

brutalbrutus 04-28-2021 10:34 AM

He was -8 thru 10 before going bogey, tribogey on 11 and 12 but backed it up with birdie eagle on 13 and 14.

...and another bird on 15

Superbford 04-28-2021 11:02 AM

So he ends up 9 under... including an eagle, bogey and triple bogey.

Shot 60 for the round.

Since the season has started his contenct has slowed down immensely.

Hampstead 04-28-2021 01:48 PM

I don't have a YouTube account, so have never subscribed to any channels. Therefore, I am in charge of what I watch and thankfully that doesn't include Brodie.

Everyone who uses youtube is in charge of what they watch*. Even if you subscribe to a channel you still have to click on the video...

Unless you have Autoplay turned on.

Cool. You felt the need to be "That Guy" explaining the obvious.

I'm proud of you.

It's clear that you roc the course.

Woot.

Jolt 04-30-2021 04:11 AM

Is it only top 10 that gets a USDGC spot? . . .that "8" might cost him alot.

Crazy to see the big names he's beating @ DDO, Sexton, Ulibarii, Conrad, Locastro, wth?

BillFleming 04-30-2021 03:33 PM

Ezra mentioned that one reason he regrets not playing in the DDO is that is is perfect for his game. I recall hearing elsewhere that the DDO is great for the bombers/strong-arm players. Brodie is a bomber/strong-arm player, so maybe that is why he is doing so well at this tournament.

Superbford 04-30-2021 03:36 PM

Brodie is one under through 8 holes today... he has four birdies... a bogey and a double bogey on a par five.

Needs to turn it up some on the back nine.

txmxer 04-30-2021 04:26 PM

Did he get a practice round in at country club?
