Epiphany (A.K.A. Apophony)
I am still pretty new to this sport. Sitting on my couch fooling around with a disc it hit me. A throw isn't a friggin straight line it is an "L" shape.

Think about it. When you "reach back" you don't actually reach backwards at all. You reach your arm directly forward from your chest. Then you pull it to your chest. Finally you straighten your arm to the side as you release the disc. The "straight line" only exists because you turn your hips.

Telling people that it is a straight line leads to confusion. How many people have you seen not turning their hips, but instead reaching their arm backwards and pulling across their chest. Why? Probably because somewhere along the way they watched a YouTube video or someone told them to throw in a straight line.

Tell someone to throw in an 'L' shape and see where that gets them.

Relative to the rest of the world, it's a straight line.

At least it should be. Mine sometimes starts as a curve, so it exits as a straight line in the direction of trouble.

mine goes straight into the brush :(

I think you missed the mark... It is a straight line, at least proper form is a straight line, regardless of what the rest of your body is doing around that straight line.
