I'd be really bummed if this is the big surprise. If they want to sell me clothes, all they need to do is make more gray hoodies... |
DGWT and Discmania apparel is already pretty pricy.
What do I know though. I scoff at a new (looking) hoodie that I want at a thrift store for $6 |

Will Lat64 and Yuikun discs be all new molds?

Woah. Interesting. Not sure I am going to try and test all of the new releases but it so makes sense for new players and market areas beyond the already established ones.
|
I think it's great for disc golf in general. Not just for Discmania only throwers. New discs, new plastic, more options.

You could say that every time Innova or any company for that matter makes a new disc. Am I right?

I agree, the market is saturated, but I feel there are way more people willing to shell out money to buy the latest and greatest than there are people that want the market trimmed down and perfected.

I truly believe its mainly not for us.* Its setting up for the emerging markets in Europe and in China (Asia). Not having to ship everything from the US gives them a better margin.
*Of course, it does not hurt if established Discmaniacs do pick up discs from those lines too (or if a Lat64 /Yikun sympathiser tries them out), but they would not be making that big of an investment to be banking only on existing markets. People seem to be all over the place with this announcement. DM knows their media game. |

So are you guys done making new discs with Innova? That sucks if that is the case.

Here's my take on it.. personally one of the reasons I love DM because I feel like they have taken the best from Innova's offerings and improved upon them. I think they have been wildly successful in their recent marketing strategies and sales goals over the past year and are rightfully looking to push their presence into additional regions and marketplaces. Hopefully, with the same intent of taking the best from each manufacturer and releasing their own "improved" versions. This should benefit us DM throwers as we will be able to fill gaps in our existing lineup all while utilizing the best offerings from additional manufactures. At first I thought this would only saturate the marketplace but I think it will be more regionally pushed and hopefully the cream of the crop from each region will push themselves into each others marketplaces. I'm pretty excited to see if the DM sponsored players in other regions start bagging these and how their reviews will fare. But please, please DM finish re-tooling the FD2 and do a huge run of DD3's cause those are going to sell like hotcakes. |
Please clarify something for me.
Discmania's announcement says that the Original line will continue to be manufactured by Innova, and that the Evolution line will be manufactured by Latitude 64. That's clear enough. However, when it comes to the Active line, it says that the discs will be "produced in collaboration with Yikun," which is different wording from the other two lines. Who is manufacturing the Active line? Yikun or some other arrangement? |

People are having a hard time differentiating between a company and a manufacturer.
DiscMania isn't a manufacturer, and Jussi said in his live stream that he doesn't want to be. There's a handful of manufacturers and up until today, each company only used 1 manufacturer - and did a really good job creating loyalty. Maybe too good at the loyalty game when it was tied to their manufacturer. Jussi has always had his sights higher than just the USA. DGWT, etc. Disc golf is a great option for a global sport - and he's not worried about this year, he's looking 10-20 years out, and he's going to kill it in the rest of the world, and keep gaining in the USA too. |
Who's excited to see DiscMania tooling on the bottom of their DiscMania Instinct?
These look incredible. And it looks like DiscMania is liking my color scheme! Thanks guys - seems like 1 in 100 will buy a red or green disc from me - pink, blue, dayglow, white fly off the shelves. Nice job making what people want! |
I truly hope they aren't just hyping these as the "more stable fd". I'm still super interested in getting one. I'm personally excited for this move and can't wait to see what it brings.
|
From what I gather, think Explorer or 2nd run FD. I guess we'll never know until they're actually released though.
|
You guys need to do another run of black P line P2's
|
Following the successful launch of the swirly DD's do you guys plan on any other plastic releases for the DD other than what is currently offered? Maybe a glow or luster???
|
This is just some feedback from a true fan, we got to find something other than swirly s line as a special release plastic. There's no doubt that we get a few gems out of each run, but for every one of those there are 20 yellowish tan sand color and nobody wants those. They don't even have swirls, they are just earth color. I know the dd3 is coming out with swirly and s line, and will probably sell well. But these CD3 do not look good. Would have rather seen another 1000 Night Strike II run instead. Just honest opinion.
Glow and Color glow is great, we get the different colors and you don't get any yellowish sand. |

But I totally agree. For every sweet looking swirly disc that you see, there's 20 others that just look like blah... That said, I'm looking forward to the NS2 release next month :D |

However, we always strive to make something special in each plastic at a time, or at least following one another. Swirl, Metal Flake, Glow, etc. and not rely solely on just making swirl plastic only. Quote:

No more DD?? Ouch. Oh well. I have a large stash. I'm interested to see what this year brings.

What are the chances for an S line md4 this yeat
|
Oh wow.. DD no more? They are the overstable Wraith I look for.
What other molds are going away if you don't mind answering? P3, DD2 or TD heading for the chopping block? |

I have also heard the CD is going away.

We know it's no fun to have molds go away from a lineup. We also know it's less fun to hear stories about these possibilities and never get a sure-fire answer on them. We'll be working on those details and informing everyone soon about this information roughly by the end of the month.
Naturally we'll be pursuing new molds to improve upon and although we won't strive to imitate old molds being removed, I'd expect some of them will for sure find a nice home in those open slots. |
