It looks EXACTLY like Chameleon. I didn’t think that the “EYETALIAN” plastic was in use beyond the MD3 and DD3, currently.

A few pages back, though, there was a comment about the Italian plastic pellets (why that’s actually a selling point is odd - Italy isn’t known for petrochemicals) finding their way to the Latitude facility.

Just making sure. Thanks all!

swhite 08-11-2021 03:12 PM

Is it reasonable to assume that all the molds that Latitude 64 is making for Discmania, as well as the molds made by Yikun for Discmania, are owned by these companies, while Discmania owns the names?

So, if Discmania eventually moves to manufacturing all their own discs, they will have to re-create the new molds like the Tactic and Tilt, just as they are doing now with the Innova produced original Discmania molds. Or, in the case of the Lat64 molds at least, Discmania could seek to buy the actual molds, which may be possible, since they apparently use the same line of manufacturing equipment that Lat64 does.

seedlings 08-11-2021 03:36 PM

I was in the Dynamic Discs store and the clerk said that most Trilogy molds have a seam on the underneath, vertically down, front tip of the wing (Defender is an exception). Innova molds have the seam sticking horizontally out of the pointy wing edge.

Which will the new Discmania drivers use? That might give hints about manufacturing.

It’s not a reasonable assumption. The reasonable assumption is that DM knew how the setup of their partnership with Innova presented a risk to them, and put up hurdles to their growth. They wouldn't enter into a new agreement that put them right back in the same position.

By 2019, when the DM-Lat64 partnership was announced, DM was likely already planning for the creation of the new factory. The most likely scenario is that they entered into the partnership with Lat64 with the understanding that a transition to in-house production was the end goal. The location of the DM factory in the same town as the Lat64 factory suggests a high degree of partnership in setting up the new production facilities.

The Lost Valley Open tournament this past weekend had Mutants and Splices (stock stamped, with a tournament overstamp) in the players packs. They're coming.

This seems to be their marketing strategy: hopeless disappointment followed by surprise

Nah.

Hopeless disappointment followed by surprise and then followed again by more disappointment.

I’m waiting for all of those P2’s that Jussi promised us. When the day comes that I can just order a few whenever I want I may switch back.

I got 4 of the protos! I ordered simultaneously from two devices on two networks. They only fulfilled one of the orders for a long time, then boom, got the second pair! I figured they would only send the first pair.

If you aren’t part of the solution then you’re part of the problem.

(Just kidding. Sort of.)

Maybe, but I’m not flipping them, I’m throwing them into the front of the cage and losing tags.

oldmandiscer 08-18-2021 07:16 AM

Are they having trouble in manufacturing? Because it's been a long time and we're not seeing discs.

For purposes of those who don't want to click on the link, according to the update, their top priority, producing the big P2 stock production run, seems to be going well. Otherwise, they seem to be hitting their current production targets, with two exceptions.

The two issues they mention are:

- They would like to have more machines up and running, but actually getting the machine parts to bring new machines on line is not happening as quickly as they would like. As they don't produce machine parts, that's not really their issue in the way that, say, their existing machine(s) producing out-of-spec plastic would be.

- Delays in stock production runs of the Tilt and the Splice. Does anyone have one of the meta Tilts? Are they stamped as Lat64 produced? It wouldn't surprise me if delays in those are really just the same kind of delays they were experiencing with Innova. Having more machines in their own factory will be the ultimate solution to this, I would think.

when this news was originally posted in this thread, I provided this summary of highlights:

Quote:

While we’re really happy with where we have gotten in such a short period of time, we have experienced some bumps in the road during our factory ramp up. The main issue has been delays with machine parts. We are still pushing hard to get more machines up and running before year’s end. It’s expected that we’ll see limited production during these next 4-6 months. We’re hopeful that things will have ramped up come early 2022...

You can expect to see the new D-Line P2 stock release to happen in late September or October.
Aside from the new P2s, we are also now running our first C-Line discs, the MD3! Early feedback has been great, with many Team Discmania players, including Simon Lizotte, Eagle McMahon and Kyle Klein immediately adding the C-Line MD3 to their bags. Our best estimates are that we’ll see stock C-Line MD3s released in late September or October...

We estimate that the production run should take 7-8 weeks, which would put an FD release some time in October or November....

There’s more info to come, but for now you can tentatively count on the Cloudbreaker 3 also taking flight in October or November....

The Mutant and Splice on the other hand will be delayed for the foreseeable future due to unexpected production issues. While we work hard to pump these out, you will see a limited run of Mutant releasing soon. The Splice had a limited release in the form of a Primal Run Triumph Series release (shoutout Eagle for that amazing Portland Open victory!). Expect some more clarification with our next production update.
additionally, specifically regarding the splice/mutant, somebody told me:
Quote:

They didn't make enough for dealers, same for the Mutant, so expect those to be triumph series/tournament release only until middle 2022

based off the message I got from a friend (shared in my previous post) I don't think we should expect stock mutants until next year. I'll still try to grab one before then but thankfully I'm just looking to replace a disc in my bag with the mutant, not fill a new slot.

looks like the tournament stamped ones and european championship fundraiser ones are going for $60+ on ebay already.

That event was run by one of DM's 2 main US salesfolk so they were likely getting some extra special treatment.

Sweet! Glad you scored one! Tell me about how much turn you see out of the box, and how much do you think it will turn once it’s seen a few rounds?

I throw a Trust right now and it fights turn very very well, but doesn’t fade quite as much as I’d like. If the MD3 is safe to go 300’ into a mild headwind without holding turn, that would be sweet.

Thanks =)

Hmmm. At 3500' elevation I see no turn now, and imagine maybe very beat in (like year/2 old) it would turn a small amount, but I put it closer to the roc3 category of discs that will always be a touch overstable for the lesser powered rather than flippy. Now at sea level I could see a little turn where you may need to add a bit of hyzer, but it would probably still fade a bit at the end. I haven't thrown the Trust, but from the numbers it seems like maybe these two are similar? Not the ideal response haha

How does the plastic compare to Innova's C-line vs. Dynamic's Lucid plastic? My concern is they are so close to Latitude now that the plastic will be similar to Lucid, which gets beat in too quickly in my opinion.

To me it feels like champion in terms of quality. Hard to say as I've only had it a couple weeks now but it certainly didn't get less stable after a couple tree drives. Compared with the couple Lat64 made discs I have (neo dm stuff) its more firm and definitely feels like a different blend.

They are beefy with little glide. I've been throwing my primal one for a few weeks. It's certainly a mold that I don't need often.

In other news, I got notification today that I won one of the prototype DD3's :D

That's what I'm hoping for honestly, the sexton is straight enough that in strong winds or really tight corners (lots of wooded golf for me) I'm looking for something with faster fade!

congrats on the dd3, that's pretty sweet. will be nice to get some more insider info. very cool that we've got some forum users as winners :)

for some reason I was under the impression/operating under the assumption that there would be a lot of variation in the amount of over stability in champ firebirds, but now that you mention it I have no idea why I was thinking that

For me, the Splice is a far different disc than the FD3. It's much more OS and has significantly less glide.
