I actually took over the duties on this mostly because I wanted an update, myself, then realized it's something you don't want to try to keep up on a daily basis. I promised myself I'd update individuals whenever anyone asked, then try to do a complete update around New Years, so folks can kind of compare stats. Look for that in January! :) |

Mainly I just wanted to compare my stats with other trusted reviewers on the bronze level. Once I do hit silver, I will be the youngest on the list, as well as the least "experienced". :hfive: |
two more reviewers recently jumped over.
The Katana Kid - to bronze and bobmcnelly - straight to silver, a long journey back from a big thumb down hole. |
Looks like PeterS is also not listed (bronze this year).

I moved up to silver today! That makes me the youngest Silver and up, here's to many more reviews DGCR!

I looked at my stats. (Thank you Sisyphus for managing this!) Diamond and Gold Reviewers average 7.5 thumbs up per rating. And all Trusted Reviewers taken together average 6.6 thumbs up. I'm only at 3.0 per rating. I'm at 88% helpful, so I don't think the issue is I'm writing bad reviews. (Critiquing myself here: I started out shaky, but I think I've improved a lot and have a better sense of what people want to see out of my reviews.)
For some reason, I don't have any reviews that crack 10+ thumbs up like many I see from other Trusted Reviewers. What's the trick to earning a lot of thumbs (other than the obvious: write good reviews)? Is it playing more popular courses? Does it just take time for thumbs up to accrue? Tips and constructive criticism appreciated! |
Most members started of shaky also. Review a course? I had never played a course with the mindset of writing a review afterwards. Look back to some reviews from trusted reviewers from 2008-2010. You will see much shorter reviews than the present. Most of us had always played just for fun, like there was no test afterwards. Now, some of us feel obligated to take notes so we won't forget anything for when we write our review later. The only 2 members that I can remember who were already reviewing courses before this site existed are Olorin and Dave242. There are probably a few others. When I first joined, one of the longest review writers was Texconsinite. Then harr0140 took the mantle. Now you have new reviewers like wellsbranch and armmiller writing reviews similar in length to Tex and harr. The reviewing process has improved overall. If anyone wants an example of a detailed and thoughtful review, there are many great reviewers from which to choose. If I had a gun to my head, I would check out harr0140, mashnut, wellsbranch and Notapro, who I think used to be gooddrivebadputt?

My thumbs up per review are relatively low compared to most other trusted reviewers. I believe it is because I spend most of my time in more remote areas and have ended up playing a lot of "off the beaten path" courses. Those courses will often get only one or two thumbs up.
However, in the course of travel I have managed to reach Diamond X, the IDGC courses, Beaver Ranch, and recently Selah and Trey Texas. Generally speaking, those reviews are getting more attention than the more remote courses, and have gathered more thumbs up. Just keep doing good reviews and trust that folks will appreciate them over time. |
