You write wonderful reviews Craig. I have planned my mental trips through NC, through your eyes and a couple other TRs. Much appreciation, keep-em coming.

Isn’t the person who has written that many reviews (typically 100+), taken so many hours of their own time to contribute to this site, and helped others, haven’t they already done enough? If there weren’t nice little TR icons next to a person’s screen name, would that same person be ‘expected’ to simply read other people’s reviews?

This mentality of expectations is embarrassing. It’s been led by one person - not you Dreadlock - and it needs to stop. Take away my TR button or every vote I’ve received. It doesn’t change the fact I’ve spent hundreds of hours writing 300+ reviews. How about appreciate that people take time to contribute to making this site outstanding, and leave it at that?

Who are you referring to and why the veiled slight? Put a name on it you are going to make an accusation like that. I've pm'd you before, but that's gotten me nowhere. Any mentality of expectations that you feel, is on you. I personally don't feel much different. I have also spent hundreds of hours writing over 300 reviews, and I as well appreciate the amount of time people will take to make this site outstanding, including your reviews!. I tried my best to be positive, although it doesn't always work. I don't recall ever making some perceived expectations that TRs must abide by. If so, I'd like to see the quote. I do recall lots of forum posts where I mention that unwarranted thumb downs are driving reviewers away from using the site. I do mention on my profile the following 'If you read a review that adds value to this site regardless of your play of that course, please consider hitting the thumb up." I did suggest posting thumb ratios on profile pages, but not who thumbed who. I probably have 100 thumb-downs i wish i could take back. If attempting to move forward and encourage positivity on this site is embarrassing, then i fully expect to continue to embarrass myself.

I also must admit, that if someone came on the DGCR forums and complained they were not getting enough thumbs on reviews, or didn't like getting thumbs down I probably immediately added to their "unhelpful" count.:D

She sums it up best. We've all seen the people pandering for votes on the message boards - the 'I only need x more votes to become a TR' post - to the people pushing for more votes on their profile pages. There have been dozens and dozens of them over the years.

Are you going to dodge the initial question, again?

you are blending the definitions of being kind and pander.

I have never pandered for votes for myself on the message boards, only for others. I have never once pandered in a private message asking for for vote. I have sent private messaging sent to users thanking them for there reviews and contributing to the site and giving them tips on how the site works.

The definition pander is someone who caters to or exploits the weaknesses of others.

The definition kind that is of a sympathetic or helpful nature. You should try it sometime.

Do you care more about other's votes total more than most people on this site? Yes.

Do I care how many votes people give or receive? Not really.

Are there more effective ways for people to contribute to this site than by voting? Absolutely.

Is writing a review more beneficial? Yes.

Is updating course conditions more beneficial? Yes.

Does anyone else care what you or I think? No.

I could not disagree with points 1,3,4 and 5. I slightly disagree with point 6. point 6 would be better described as "very very little." I have no basis of comment on point 2. I am not in your head.

I will further expunge on your blanket statements.

Would this site attract and retain more good reviewers if there was less unwarranted negative thumb feedback? yes

Is thumbing-up a good review as a reader encouraging to the poster? yes

Is thumbing reviews required or expected of TRs, or anyone? no

If someone thumbs your reviews, are you required to thumb them back? no

Are readers at liberty to decide weather to thumb-up, thumb-down or do nothing at all when reading a review? yes

All fair points.

In a perfect world, people could review objectively, which I think you and I both do. That would be the most effective thing that would serve the most people on this site.

All I ask is that anyone writing reviews actually take the time to actually describe the course and what it's like to play it.

Good, honest, objective reviews help the site. Thoughtless, agenda driven reviews don't.

Votes are just an easy guage for differentiating the good reviews from the bad. Obviously not with 100% reliability, but with relatively few exceptions, the votes tend to reflect the quality of the reviews.

Let's not escalate this into something Tim regrets doing.
