What pdga rating would you get playing par golf?

Just curious what everyone thinks your overall rating would be if you played par golf and ending up par'ing at every tournament. I think "900" would be a fair guess.

All depends on the course, conditions, and competition.

We haven't ever discussed par before, so this is good. :p

Put your popcorn away. I actually calculated this for the Open division. I looked at a one-week sample of tournaments, using the pars reported by the TDs (not all par 3). The precise answer is you would average 6.6 throws worse per round than the highest score that would earn at least a 1000 rating.

So, I guess that's about a 940 rating.

Interesting, thanks Steve! Did you pull the data from the entire pdga data or just from a certain region or tournaments? Thx.

At this year's BHMO, the Friday and Saturday pin postion was 1000 rated if you shot par. Of course, they play all 3's and some holes are probably really a par 4.

Sunday pin placement was a shorter layout and par (81 for 27 holes) was 980.

Depends on the course design level

Par golf on a red level course is going to rated a lot lower than par golf on a gold level course.

If more TDs used all par 3s, par would be more accurate (in total) than it is now. Using all par 3 means that a few holes might be mislabeled, but at least the total par is not inflated as much as if a few par 4s are sprinkled in without also acknowledging the par 2s.

For example, there were no holes that were clearly par 4 at BHMO. (Holes 10 and 13 from the regular tees were on the bubble. They could be called the toughest par 3s or they could have been some of the easiest holes to par at 4.)

On the other hand, holes 5 and 6 (plus 25 from the shorts) were par 2s.
