Will be interesting to see for sure.

Connor McGregor proved that a fighter can go toe to toe with a boxer though, even if he gets beat in the end. Nobody thought he'd make it 10 rounds.

My belief is they made sure it went 10 rounds.

Maybe so. But did you watch the fight? Connor got his butt whooped those last few rounds, but managed to stick it out and take it to the end.

Emoney 02-09-2020 12:35 PM

I didnt have high hopes for Brodie but then i watched his ball golf video with Jon Rahm.

To play ball golf that well after 4 months, at a desert course, is impressive to say the least.
I dont think he will be a "Elite" disc golfer but i can see him being a pro rated player pretty quickly

DiscFifty 02-10-2020 12:43 AM

After seeing his progress, I think Brodie will end up being as good at disc golf as wants to be.

Keller 02-10-2020 07:00 AM

I wonder with his manic type behavior if he'll have the patience for three days of four hour rounds.

wims 02-10-2020 07:09 AM

1000 rated = pro rated

Nope.

Lloyd is rated 751 and according to the PDGA is a "professional." Therefor he is "Pro rated."

Halcón 02-10-2020 08:23 AM

Wow. 751. No offense, but any able bodied man with a hint of athletic ability should be able to acheive a rating higher than that. Especially with the amount of tourney experience that he has.

Edit: I guess he might have some physical limitations that are affecting his performance.

Performance on the disc golf course? Sure, whatever.

Performance on the yoga mat crushing them burpees? No sir! :D

You may already know this, but he does use an editor. I think he edited the recent lower budget videos with Paul/Hannah himself and actually mentions one of his edits that took him ages in the comment section of the stadium video. Generally though, he pays an editor to do the post production piece which allows him to push out a lot of content.

I was thinking 960-970 rated. He has all the free time to practice and the best players in the world teaching him.

How many disc golfers have you seen get good after they lost their job? Lol

If he stays serious about it and sticks with it, he could suprise us all.

Ball golf is so difficult, he has changed my mind on what he is capable of.

wolfmandragon 02-10-2020 01:24 PM

Ball golf makes disc golf look like a childs game. I had rather play Disc Golf, much due to the relaxed atmosphere.

Jugular 02-10-2020 01:58 PM

Intrigued to know what people think his recently posted "1st round" would be rated as.
Short holes but in some strong winds took 10 birdies and 8 pars. Seems pretty solid.

brutalbrutus 02-10-2020 02:19 PM

elmexdela 02-10-2020 02:27 PM

when will brody get a legit first ace

Jolt 02-10-2020 02:38 PM

surprised how "toned down" he is in his commentary . . not the HYPER hyped Brodie from the first videos i saw ( the first trick shot one with Paul and Simon )

F. Howl 02-10-2020 02:56 PM

^^^Yeah, he sounds...perfectly normal! Maybe his "yelling-over-freeway-noise" voice was something he adopted for youtube and the ultimate crowd.

SpikeHyzer 02-10-2020 03:03 PM

How about the standstill 370'ish hyzer shot on hole 18?!

Yea, its pretty impressive for someone playing for as short of a time as he has.

Uhm no not even close. Mayweather toyed with him every single round to keep the fight interesting, obviously a ploy for a future fight that will land him even more money. Everyone can talk all the crap they want about Mayweather but he knew what he was doing and ALLOWED him to stay in 10 rounds

DGCR SSE of 38 puts his round of 43 at 925. Seems about right but courses with SSE's that low are not as good of indicators.

That's not how I saw it. I was watching it thinking that Mayweather knew McGregor's only chance to win was a wild KO. He didn't wanna let that happen, obviously. The longer that fight went, the better Mayweather's odds we're of winning. I don't think, even if he wanted, Mayweather could have ended that fight in, say, 5 rounds. I don't think he was "toying" more so fighting smart. Could be wrong, idk. Just my thoughts.

DiscFifty 02-10-2020 03:46 PM

Brodie's short game is looking very good in his 1st round video. I would expect a 1000 rated player to go 16-18 down every time they play this course in anything but winds 25mph+.

TheirTheir 02-10-2020 05:42 PM

Jomez needs a 'Dissecting the Hole' series (or something less Freudian) where a top pro takes Brodie to a well-known course and does a deep dive into the signature hole. Shows and explains the pros & cons to all different shot types, how to scramble if need be, etc.

FTFY!

Of course, nobody would watch those videos. LOL!

BrotherDave 02-10-2020 09:30 PM

I do find it really interesting to see Brodie evolve as a player and how his understanding of the game's nuances develops. He really seems to picking stuff up quickly, understanding shot selection, different lines, etc. It's like an ethnography of a n00b.

brutalbrutus 02-10-2020 09:39 PM

Yea... now someone needs to get ahold of him and show him what's legal to move around the lie.:D

Jimb 02-10-2020 09:46 PM

Can you attach a link to the PDGA rules to his video in the comments? :D

Huh. Learned a new word today. Some days I feel dumber for having read some of this stuff and other days crap like this happens. DGCR is so weird.

disco40 02-10-2020 10:06 PM

Definitely want to see him play a longer course now, something tough but maybe not championship level. His putting is really impressive at this stage, seems to be the best part of his game.

brutalbrutus 02-10-2020 10:10 PM

He's got that touch FH putter shot down pretty good too.

Martin Dewgarita 02-11-2020 01:34 AM

I'm thinking he might need a mini sponsor.

You should do a mock up of his Get Freaky logo and send it to him?...

I completely agree. And this shows what an excellent move it was for discraft to get him.

We're being given the 'Journey of the Talented Newcomer', which is a compelling narrative.

In writing/film it is the classic 'Hero's Quest' storyline archetype.

Oh, and I think Brodie is doing a great job of telling the story.

Agreed, watching his solo round impressed me. I know it was a short course but hes doing much better then I would have thought.

Paul Ulibarri did a video about this subject last year. Its not even an original idea.

He said at the beginning that he didn't take pictures of the signs because the distances were suspect. I doubt if that hole was actually 370. Tough to tell from video, but I'd guess more like 300. Still good distance, considering it was on hyzer the whole way.

TheOtherBill 02-11-2020 11:31 AM

That's my regular course and 18 is pretty dang long, plus you can't cut that corner much at all. Going wide like that is 350+ in the air. I can get BH out to 300 on a good day and have gotten within 50 feet once (missed the d@mn putt tho).

The distances are certainly messed up - rolling them out with a measuring wheel is on my to-do list once the weather clears up.

However, he will need to practice A LOT to putt from the rough on that course in the spring/summer. Tons of stinging nettles, thorns and fire ants to avoid. I don't wear shorts out there anymore, plus the back 9 has very narrow fairways when mowed and weeds up to 6 feet tall.
