Are you equally disappointed in Hannah McBeth?

Superbford 02-26-2021 10:50 PM

Two solid rounds from Smith.

13 Innova Factory Brodie Smith 128378 999 -15 52 1037 54 1033

Tied for thirteenth with seven others, so sitting top twenty overall after two rounds. 15 under. ratings of 1037 and 1033.

When I started this thread I never thought a year later, these statements could even be close to being legit...

Brodie Smith in the LVC:
Shot 4 strokes off McBeth in round 1.
In round 1 beat Kevin Jones, Jeremy Koling, Drew Gibson, Nathan Sexton.
After 2 rounds is tied with Kevin Jones, Paul Ulibari.
After 2 rounds is 9 strokes ahead of Greg Barsby, Emerson Keith.

I assume you've already had your wake up call.

Yes, obviously, she technically works for the DGPT.

Seems like she probably has the correct contact info to clear things up before heading to Twitter.

Did you think this was going to be some "gotcha" moment?

brutalbrutus 02-27-2021 06:07 PM

Must be nice when you're "down" round is still a 1022, lol.

No. It spoke for itself when omitting the other party.

I am well aware that the subject of this thread is Brodie.

Just noticing that the things that posters are up in arms about in this thread always omit players of higher status and even veterans of the sport when pointing out poor behaviors. I would think if someone actually cares about such bad behaviors that they would include others that are doing the same things - to discourage such egregious happenings overall.

Or is it that they really do not care much about WHAT the bad behavior is, but only about a singular WHO that is involved?

Yes.....I think everyone cares about all involved. I am pretty sure that is in the thread call Pro Players PDGA # Various. Brodie gets discussed here, because the thread title encourages posters to talk about Brodie. Hey, is this Brodie's mom?? :p

"Yes.....I think everyone cares about all involved." < This is not evident in this thread.

Again, I am aware of the subject = Brodie.

Adding to the inane nature of this thread is the Brodie's mom comment. Everything not in the "Bad Brodie" camp is taken as an attack on the herd. It is humorous to me that stating anything contrarian to the "Bad Brodie" gang is met with such defensive postures.

Pointing out how the dislike for one certain player can create such blind spots and willful disregard of the same behaviors per other players - on their social media - on their YouTube channels - is simply an observation.

I am solidly in the camp of this thread as entertainment - and reading through the thread I have noticed that poking the herd provides outstanding reactions.

The behaviors that have elicited responses here are:

Often Brodie exclusives
Far more often seen by done by Brodie
Far more egregious by Brodie
Often pointed out, when done by other players, elsewhere on this site
Cataloged here.....because it is a Brodie thread.

You seem to be a fan of Brodie's.....good on you. I don't think there is a ton of hate here at all. I think most here are fans of the game and hope to see Brodie find success and help the game. He is looking for a large reaction, mostly via his social media presence. That, by nature, will bring large praise and criticism. He is well aware that bad press is better than no press. He strives to be a polarizing figure in the game and does so pretty well.

I suggest you keep looking around the site to find some criticism of other players, to soothe your annoyance. As you look to further polarize your postulated "camps" in this thread, look in the mirror. Remember, when you point the finger at someone else, there are three pointing back at you.

I don't think much of the criticism here is unjustified. As a fan, you may not like it or agree, but you will need to provide some compelling argument to defend some of his antics. And the "hey what about ____________ player", is not very compelling.

I hope he sees this bro.

Looks like Brody isn't having much fun in the wind today...

Still all in all, a top25 finish is pretty good...especially considering there are something like 50 players rated 1010 or better in the field.

DiscFifty 03-01-2021 02:37 AM

Brodie averaged 7.5 strokes back per round at the LVC. He has a full plate scheduled this year so I don't see him having time to change up anything drastically in his game. 5-7 strokes per round is too much to even think about a victory on the DGPT tour, he needs to shrink that to around 3-5 for a possible top 10 finish.

Jolt 03-01-2021 03:05 AM

He was only one throw behind players like McBeth, Conrad and Sexton that last round..

Top 25 is good but he is still 10 throws from top 10. . .his C1x % was to low, he missed 10putts, make those and hes top10

autocrosscrx 03-01-2021 05:23 AM

He played great. He definitely made the right decision pulling off the tour last year. Last year was about learning to play. He isn't particularly good at anything (by tour standards), but he has the shots. This year is about learning to compete at that level.

DiscFifty 03-02-2021 02:23 AM

Let the 1000 rated merchandising begin....

From his Facebook group: "1000 - Working on something special that you wont want to miss out on. More details to come"

ChrisWoj 03-02-2021 08:48 AM

Off topic, but..... I miss 1000rated.com ...

brutalbrutus 03-05-2021 12:09 AM

I wonder how many discs he lost today?...

Shankapotamus 03-05-2021 07:05 AM

I like Brodie, hes funny and a good human interest story. His achievements will bring more attention to the sport and motivate others to follow his pursuits. Ive seen many people post on his social media that he inspired them to pick up disc golf. He even got his wife involved and she has a big reach as well.

Shaved 4strokes off his score from yesterday.

When Brodie starts complaining on social media about disc golf it's an instant tune out for me. I've been a fan of his for a multitude of years but dude sounds so entitled it's almost unbearable. I don't want to hear a darn thing about how he thinks the sport should be played/presented as he's only been playing for a little over a year. *shakes fist in the air*

VictorB 03-06-2021 12:16 AM

Nate had a nice interview with Brodie on Running It this week.

uh ok? Outside perspective can help people think about things in different ways. People who are getting mad at him are the same people who probably use the term "We have always done it this way" quite frequently.

Just don't pay attention to what he says on social media.;)

Brodie is on the latest Running It podcast with Nate Sexton and it’s a good listen.

Yes and no. I have seen guys play disc golf with all their free time, and have never improved their game. Alot depends on how motivated someone is: to surround themselves with the right people, to learn how to practice correctly, etc. To really want to excel. Some people could play 7 days a week and be happy just throwing plastic.

Playing all the time isn't the same thing. He's saying that if any of us were able to surround ourselves with the resources afforded to Brodie (example: tons and tons of personal tutoring by the world's best player and unlimited time to play/practice) we would be better.

Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect. If you're practicing bad habits all the time, you'll never be better.

I agree...but Brodie is far from an outside perspective. His takes are steeped in personal agenda. That is not a bad thing, but not an outsiders take.

I think we just said the same thing, lol. I had this exact same conversation on a local facebook group. I stick to my main point that motivation is very key here. Player A may achieve excellent results because of a baseline athletic ability, while the average player here would not achieve touring player status because of mind set, motivation, etc. I suspect if some people dedicated all that time and energy to the game, they would get burned out very quickly.

I think you and I are saying something slightly different and neither are wrong.

You are correct not everyone, no matter the resources, could be a top tier player.

My point is if we all had the those same resources we would all be better than we are.

I agree 100%.

I'm not a huge fan of Brodie's personality myself, but he is a very good marketer, a good athlete, and more power to him if he can make this work.

It is definitely a great time for the sport. Will be interesting to see how things evolve over next few years as more people from outside the sport participate. As a fitness guy, I am excited to see Ezra Aderhold doing as well as he is doing. I see more and more players following a good fitness routine and it seems to be helping their games. Maybe disc golf will become a "real" sport afterall, lol.

Same here Horsman. I was in a discussion about this on our local facebook page, I told one of our local organizers that my putting has been the best it has ever been ever since I started doing dead lifts and other balance exercise, without really ever doing any putting practice. He laughed and didn't believe me, but it really is true. I don't play much at all and am playing at the same level as when I was playing 6 days a week.

brutalbrutus 03-06-2021 07:42 PM

Nice recovery today. After shooting +1 on the front9, he shot -6 on the back and has a 1033 currently with a couple cards yet to be posted. 991 1032 1033 so far with one round to play

brutalbrutus 03-07-2021 09:23 PM

Finished the event with a 1020, be interesting to see how he does in those tight lines at Waco after playing these two open style events...
