Just checked UDisc. He finished tied for 27th this week at the Vintage Open in Arkansas. Way behind the leader as most were outside of the top five.... finished one stroke behind Dickerson, finished ahead of Double G, KJUSA, Hammes, Barsby, Ezra A and a few other names.

I haven't watched many DG youtubers lately, but I do find it interesting watching to see how he and Ezra both do each week they compete and play.

txmxer 04-11-2021 06:56 PM

With the wind I expect experience to be a factor in performance. But if he finished ahead of Barsby, not many more experienced than him.

KJ and Ezra need to get some better finishes.

Nico was 1093 in rnd 2? Very impressive.

..and Conrad set a course record -14 in the second round... smoking... wind was down that day though. I think KJ and Ezra are looking forward to some bomber courses in the future.

"Just created a new channel on YouTube, Brodie Shorts, where I will be posting some throwback trick shot bangers and some new stuff. Trying to hit 1000 Subscribers so if you can spread the word that would be awesome! Thanks guys!"

I always thought Brodie making another channel would be a sign his enthusiasm for disc golf is waning. :\ But glad to see the trick shots are making a come back.

ChrisWoj 04-11-2021 11:33 PM

Throwing trick shots hundreds of times will be great for the hand feel necessary on a lot of scramble plays. If he's doing these new videos with golf discs pretty exclusively - it'll be a nice skills development hobby away from the course.

Lolololol KJ played college football in Russellville...

Pretty sure he’s played that course a couple of times...

He mentioned numerous times that he's played it a bunch on the GKpro coverage.

Also wasn't he a punter in college? If so he kind of played college football. His trash talking is very impressive for a punter though. :D

haha yeah his dad's a college coach and I think he got recruited as a punter and tried to play some other spots but didn't quite cut it. I wouldn't mess with him in an alley

The one trait you need in a punter is full commitment without concern for consequences.

Just like his fall down ace, I’ve noticed several times that he does things like that. At the vintage he jump putted standing behind a little ravin and hit the ground when he landed.

Hope he doesn’t get injured from that.

Yep. I think it was made clear where KJ was from, not a mystery going into the tournament.
I still think the way he's thrown the last three or four tournaments, he'd like to see something more open with lots of length.

I mean, I certainly hope so. Otherwise gravity is broken and we're all screwed ;)

if 1000 rated discs are worth $400, what are 1004 rated discs going to be worth!?!?

If multiple people are paying $400 for a "1000" disc, then it is impossible to predict values.

I think it just means your 1000 disc is now worthless.

If it maths right, 1 rating point is $0.40....

So roughly $20 still

$400? That's just crazy to me :wall:

His latest practice video with Double G and Weese is pretty fun.

Smith admits to struggling with this putt right now and you can see it in the video. That is a bit of a problem as it was one of his strengths.

Every athlete at every level goes through slumps. At PTO level and only playing for a couple of years, I’ve been impressed with his consistency.

Is he the fastest player from newb to 1000 ever?

I think there have been a few new members over the years that started over a thousand.

Jacky Chen #128836

Including Jacky Chen who joined the PDGA after Brodie and is rated higher than Brodie.

It's hard to say what constitutes a newb. Several of the current top players in the world skyrocketed to 1000 rated in PDGA play, but we have no idea how long they were playing before they started playing in tournaments.
Dickerson's first rating was 1007 and never fell below 981. https://www.pdga.com/player/62467/history
Wysocki went from 935 to 1004 in 17 months as a 16 year old. https://www.pdga.com/player/38008/history
Fish's first rating was 1002, dipped below 1000, and then got back up over 1000 in 11 months. https://www.pdga.com/player/58320/history

All players played the same layout, so 1 player out of 73 propagators cannot have an excessively large influence. Additionally, Humphries's round was not included in the ratings calculation anyway due to being too far below his player rating.

No idea, but as others pointed out, most have played DG for years.

Although Brodie is not new to frisbees and he had played DG casually a few times, his start in to actually playing DG was about 2 years ago now I think.

Some players are bypassing sanctioned play until their game is good enough. No sure why....

Fish's first rating was 978.

I'm very confused by that ToddL post... there is no 1002 on that entire ratings history...

FWIW - He played WR as a freshman at Arkansas Tech, and WR, Safety, and Kicker in HS.

His bio indicates he was pretty much an all around athlete in HS. Not sure why he only played a year of college ball, but my guess is 2016 is when he realized he was better at DG than he was at football, and started taking DG more seriously.

My guess is he realized at 160 lb (guess) that even playing Div II those guys are big, strong and hit really hard. Good way to get hurt.

autocrosscrx 04-17-2021 06:20 PM

If you are curious about the KJUSA timeline, he covers it on the Brian Earhart podcast. IIRC, he said he wasn't getting any field time other than punting, which the stats in Bogey's link support.
