I've never looked at views. However, I'm sure that Simon, Paul, Foundation, Jomez, GK, etc, etc, etc, get a lot of views.

would it surprise you to find out that brodie has more subscribers than all of those channels put together?

So in other words when Brodie does not wear a mask more people see that than all other top pros combined.

Subscribers? No. Day 1 views for disc golf content? Maybe a bit.

...but we are 9 months in on this and it has impacted every aspect of everyone's life, I don't think anyone who has been masking and limiting contact is going to suddenly go wild because they saw some disc golfers not wearing a mask on YouTube.

I would be interested in an "active" subscribers count. Brodie has been a Youtube sensation since 2007. He was on Dude Perfect in 2011. He's been a staple of bro culture for a decade. How many of those 2.2Million subscribers were 16-20 year old boys, who now have jobs and haven't watched a Brodie video in 5 years?

i just used subscriber count because it's far easier to do that than try to find a similarly-aged video on each of those channels and compare. if i thought that would add something to the discussion i'd do it

but you'd just move the goalposts again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No, I don't think that. I am not really one who is purporting social media, as the gateway to "the big time". Brodie is, and many on this site are as well. If this is a given, then there are more eyes than just other disc golfers on these videos. Sponsors, municipalities and park systems, NIMBY park neighbors.... Not to mention the clear message of disc golfers, in general, not giving a crap about anyone but themselves.

No, it is not the crime of the century, but putting my mom or child at risk should not be simply dismissed.

Or just agree on one disc for each to offer up.

Value will have to be equal.

I would want a Roc or Teebird or Valkyrie or Leopard or old Ching Aviar.

You win! I will have to give you a new premium disc, as I don't have any new-old classic DX. I have some old DX stuff, but it's all used and not in great condition. I may have a couple unthrown tourney-stamp premium plastic discs that are on your list. When I get home tonight I will take a look at what I currently have and let you know. If you aren't interested them, I will order a new disc and have it shipped to you.

You are the one that initially said views. Given Vlogsmas, I think it would be pretty easy to compare views on an even field. Brodie, Simon, and Eagle are doing it. Foundation and Jomez are constantly putting out content.

...but regardless, as much as I am frustrated by the lack of consideration of others when it comes to Covid, it seems pretty absurd to single out Brodie Smith at this point in the game.

What impresses me, and this is taking him at his word and he said it to me like 10 years ago, but he says the only time he has for disc golf is tournament rounds. I'd venture some of the ability to retain the muscle memory comes from the fact that he's been playing since he was a child.

This is a great point and honestly has made me reconsider who I support and root for as a professional disc golfer.

That affects my buying habits from those that support them.

Something sponsors should be taking a serious interest in.

With that said, I'm sure many large disc golf companies do know and consider what their sponsored pros do.

If they're OK with what is taking place, then chances are they also support it themselves.

Maybe think twice about them as a consumer then.

Because I was curious (and am petty:D ), I looked at views. Simon started Vlogsmas a day earlier than Brodie. Comparing Day 2 thru 7 for Simon and the first 6 days for Brodie, Simon is at 65k views per vid versus 39k views per vid for Brodie.

Sent a sternly worded email to Discraft.

Why? They've already seen the videos.

That's my point.

Agree, but my letter simply voiced my disappointment and reinforcement, that the image projected by their sponsored players, impacts my decisions of what I watch, buy and support. I don't anticipate any reaction for Discraft, but I would feel remiss by ignoring it.

Superbford 12-08-2020 11:31 PM

I'm just going to let disc golfers and other adults make their own decision on what they need to do to be safe. I've played plenty of rounds since May with 4 to 6 people sometimes.... no wearing masks outside during the round... and we've done well. None of the peeps I've played with have had it. Most have had hand sanitizer with them.

People outdoors having a good time. Need more of that.

I will totally admit that Simon has a much bigger following than I realized when I started looking at the view count. I also think that other person is right about Brodie’s subscriber count being inflated - I think he’s losing subscribers at this point vs Simon who is definitely gaining them. You do also have to factor in that these are the first videos Simon has posted in a while.

Did Simon have a video with 10 people mobbing somebody that just hit an ace? Or does he have some other videos with super lax social distancing?

I haven't watched either super closely. Simon has definitely not worn a mask and social distanced playing disc golf and has played in various groups, but he does show himself in a mask in public. He definitely has Brodie beat there.

...but nobody in disc golf is really out there actively pushing public safety in disc golf. It just ranges from not always masking and social distancing to maskless mob golf like GK Pro and others.

Agreed, other disc golfers and even a media company or two leave much to be desired. Brodie is consistently the worst I’ve seen, with second place going to a tie of Luke Humphries/Ricky.

It was suggested to quite a few touring pros to do a PSA video about masks, etc. It would have been easier to do than ANY disc video.

None did it that I've seen.

Just kidding about the Franklin Albatross. I do feel I should send you a disc though. I have these. A Roc3 from the 2017 Coachman Classic with Ken Climo's "likeness" on it, and a gold shimmer star Teebird from the Oldsmar Goldrush. I'd be happy to send either of these your way or order a new disc online and have it shipped to you.

My neighbors are grown up, educated, responsible professionals. I saw no gatherings in my area.

Despite the deep philosophical offerings of your father, maybe you don't get the idea of marketing and buyer decision making.

If a company continually supports some outrageous social injustice, that I have been an opponent of for some time, I shall spend a few minutes of my life to denounce them. Life is one of those social causes, to me.

Hmmmm......I called you no names. Just defended my action from your initial veiled bashing.

This is a Brodie Smith thread. He is often touted for his social media presence and the positive impact that "skill" can have on the promotion of disc golf. I am disappointed in his presentation and Discraft for their support, of his ignorance. I am not asking for you to agree, yet you call me a "chad"?

Well, I had to look up "chad".

"A phrase describing a stereotypical young urban white male, typically single and in his 20s. This phrase is usually used to denote stereotypical "Chad" behavior which is ususally derogatory."

Again, hmmmmm.....doesn't seem to fit. Second time a veiled response has failed to hit the mark.

Eagle seems to be good about masking up.

Of course it’s a neck gator which is not a good mask. But the intent is there.
