DG growth chart

The chart on PDGA.com shows the growth of courses since 2000, where can I find a graph/chart online since 1997?

There's a course growth graph you can click on this Innova page:

Interesting that the growth in the world matches the growth chart I made of Germany's courses pretty well.

This animation from the PDGA shows the growth of courses in the US staring in 1975 to 2009

Funny, I just made a couple of these a week ago. I used the above youtube visualization for the early years, and pdga.com numbers since 2000:

For the forecasts, I did one exponential based on all years, another exponential based on 2000-2007, and a linear based on 2000-2012. Best guess would probably be between the two lower forecasts, yes?

Cgkdisc 06-12-2012 10:15 AM

It's possible the overall growth is exponential but the growth we can track is closer to linear. At least one target manufacturer has indicated they now sell more targets for private courses, most which may never be listed, than for public courses.

grodney 06-12-2012 10:25 AM

Yeah, sales figures of full courses would probably be a more useful metric, in a perfect world.

grodney 06-12-2012 10:44 AM

Although one might argue that if a private course is never listed publicly, then it's not really important in a discussion of course growth or dg growth in general.

Certainly the impact is less in terms of generating as many players as a public course but it does impact disc golf economic health and influence.

Yeah, a guy with 9 holes in his cow field who only ever invites his three friends to play with him shouldn't count as growth of the sport.
