Wilder DGC, Newport, OR
Just a heads up:

The Ford foundation has granted the money to put in an 18 hole course in South Beach, near the Oregon Coast Community College. The land use still has to be a approved by the City of Newport, but there is a real effort here to put a course in. Lots of Doug Firs and elevation changes.

There's also talk of putting two other courses, one in Toledo and another in Depoe Bay.

Will let you know more details as they become available.

About time, Oregon Coast! Usually windy over there--should be hard!

Here's a news story about it : http://www.newslincolncounty.com/?p=44865

The woman listed at the bottom of the story, Alma Baxter , is the real catalyst of all this.

Wow, look at the second comment to the article. Joannie is pretty well versed in passive-aggressive sarcasm and seems to be fueled by her own proud ignorance. Way to go Joannie, those are the kind of constructive comments that build "community"! *High Five*

Thanks to Alma and the Ford Foundation the course is really starting to come together. They put out calls for hole sponsors and filled all of them (and had to turn people away). Because of the commitment to goals and $$$$ from the Ford foundation, the course is set to be completed by September. They seem real serious.

I've been out there a couple times and it's really starting to look like more of a course than a crazy idea of throwing discs in a up and down Oregon coastal forest.

I've included the "almost but not quite final" layout of the course. It's just east of the newer Oregon Coast Community College.
