I use low tops most of the time. But what I use will depend on the course. I've worn everything from sandals to leather hiking boots and wool socks because of the terrain.

IMO if you want a quality small bag Gorilla Boy's Spider Monkey is it. If you want cheap, Lightning has one I that I like. I keep one filled with almost retirees in the work truck just in case.

If I were making a home built target, I'd be building a tone pole. In fact way back when I built two and putted between them. The construction is simpler, cheaper and much easier.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "winner calls the mando". The winner of the previous hole calls a mando on the next hole. It's best with just two players on an easy course.
