I don't think the Giant will stand up to 30+ MPH headwinds though. Decent overstable disc, but it isn't really made for gusty conditions.

For big time wind the Warhorse would be a better choice.

I started bagging a Z Zone lately. I really like what the disc does. It can be used for short tee shots, approach shots, or putting on windy days. The flight is glideless, overstable, and consistent....

I've actually seen Flicks that turn. MOST Flicks won't, but some do. I pulled them out of my bag for that reason. When I throw a Flick, I don't want any turn out of it.

When a Flick turns, it can...

I always felt like the first star Wraiths ever introduced were the best. This would be 2007. They were domey, and made out of fairly stiff, indestructible star plastic. The discs would last years...

I've actually thrown 2 Hades' now. These things aren't as flippy as I've been reading about. I'm able to get them out to about 450' without a ridiculous amount of turn. They fly elegantly. Not quite...

Generally, what determines a good vs. bad Katana for me is dome (or lack thereof). The flatter the Katana, the worse it'll fly. Flat Katanas tend to glide poorly and be really overstable.

The...

The last Wave I threw I actually really liked. Proton plastic, unkown weight. Lots of turn, but it'd actually hook up nicely at the end of flight. I was popping it over 450' regularly.

My main...

I like the Trespass more than the Wave too. The Mayhem is also another good option if you want to stick with MVP/Axiom.

For understable bombs I usually stick with a Shryke.

ESP proto Hades

I got to throw my first Hades today. ESP proto, unknown weight. Probably 170g or so. Here are my thoughts.....

Like the proto Zeus, the plastic on the Hades is gorgeous. Shiny, swirly, and...

I agree. The Sapphire will get downrange easily with a fairly average toss. What I really like about it though is that it'll also give you another 40' or so if you really lay into it hard. The...

Waves are by far the most lost MVP disc I encounter. I've found no fewer than a dozen.

I've thrown a few good Waves, but mostly I find them too flat, flippy, and glideless to be of much use.

When you buy varying weights you're going to get varying flights, even if all the discs are the same mold.

I threw a flat blizzard Katana today that was a glideless turd. Absolute beef cake too. A...

I can't deal with the Tenacity either. SOOO flippy and touchy. The Catalyst isn't nearly as bad, nor is the Mayhem.

I got the Tenacity well over 450' a few times, but mostly I was turning and...

Paige looked good for sure. That course suited her game. Lots of long, fairly unimpeded drives. Paige also putted really well. In 3 rounds she may have had 4 bad holes.

Catrina looked really good...

Kings are just wild. I like the distance they give, but I can't control them at all. Once they turn, they almost never come back. At least with a Katana you'll get a good late fade to bring the disc...

Give them all some throws and do a quick write up. I'd be interested to see your thoughts.

Of those 3, the 166 champ would appeal most to me as well.

Take a long look at the Archon too. For me the Archon flies like a mellower Wraith. A hair flippier, with less late fade.

For what the Katana does, no other manufacturer makes a disc that really matches it. The Katana is so fast and shallow. The closest thing I can think of is the Cannon.

A perfect Katana...

Zone

I figured out today that I really love the Z Zone. McBeth 5X. First off, the disc is beautiful, and the plastic looks very rugged/durable.

More importantly, the Zone is like the Swiss army knife...

There's definitely some variances in the Katana. It has a shallow, wide rim. Any other driver of that ilk is going to have the same inconsistencies.

IMO the Katana is a great mold, and will fly...

Cloudbreaker 2

Well, I got to throw a Cloudbreaker 2 yesterday. Here are my thoughts:

Disc is 175g.

Nice dome. My other Cloudbreaker is a lot flatter.

Pretty overstable, but with good glide. The...

Tough to say. I see both star and champions that are domey..... or flat. Plastic doesn't seem to play a huge role in determining dome with the Katana.

You might be able to email the online disc...

Agreed. I've thrown 1 pro Tern, and I just didn't love it. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't as good as a star.

Good star Katanas are staggeringly long bombers.

Flight-wise, I didn't find the Orc or Sword to be very similar to the Sapphire. Swords are flippy, and the Sapphire really isn't. Throwing only 300', you won't really any flex out of the Sapphire....

I like both champ and star, as long as they're domey. For sheer distance sake I'd say stars are a little longer.

I don't mess with pro plastic anymore. It flies OK for a while, but then goes...
