I still think a simple machine could be built to mimic the wrist and the pinch point to throw discs pretty effectively.

You'd need an arm (you could eliminate the elbow and the shoulder) which connected to a fairly plain hinge (the wrist) with a few rubber-coated nubs that could be tightened or loosened to approximate the grip (pinch point). The arm could attach just above the wrist hinge and whip around a little radius at the end.

The radius could remain the same (the purpose is just to throw a disc effectively) and the speed of the arm movement and the pressure in the pinch point could be changed.
