I believe the claymore is in a different class of midranges because its diameter is smaller than most midranges more like a driver size.

With a larger diameter disc you get more glide. And I believe it is more forgiving too.

I know from shooting a bow the greater the distance between axles the more forgiving the bow will be.

Though like everything else with new technology the axles have gotten closer shortening the bow making it faster but not more accurate.

Not sure where I am going with this but I just think in general the best diameter for a mid
has already been determined which is roc size, mace, etc.
