While I appreciate Lewis's input and common sense cures, I might suggest a visit to your doc before investing in Serta and Lazyboy.

While rest and some motrin can help with soreness not related to injury, the risk/reward ratio for back problems doesn't fall in favor of dismissal. If your back is injured the risk of lifelong pain and problems is real. Don't except pain meds as an answer to your issues. Insist your doctor follow a diagnostic pathway that is supported by best practice.

Rest your painful back, decrease the swelling with ice and NSAID's. Stretching and strengthening your core should be the next step if the pain is gone. If pain persists, see your doctor.
