Default January Destination Event

Both Mandabear and I can get away pretty easily in the month of Jan. Previous years we have done a road trip to the Memorial in Feb, but recently that hasn't quite fit into our schedule.

So, we're looking for somewhere warm. A solid event. Solid courses to play in the event, as well as before/after on the way to/from. Taking a week or 10 days or so. Camping available at or near said event would be great. Event does not have to be sanctioned - I love me some solid underground fun events. Could even be "hey a handfull of us get together on such and such weekend for a specific adventure of sorts or whatever..

It's a longshot, but Throw Down the Mountain (Brooksville, FL) has wandered around the calendar a bit. Don't make any firm plans until you're sure they're not doing it in January. Because, if they are, that's where you want to be.

When do we find out their schedule?

I would second the Throw Down the Mountain recommendation if it is occurring in January. Mike Barnett would be the man to contact for info and can be reached through Sun King Discs.

Still considering our possibilities. We don't exactly have funds to travel far, or do anything too fancy, but could be interested in traveling somewhere warm - doesn't even have to be disc golf related if there's other great ideas out there (we can always play disc golf pretty much anywhere despite what the destination is) Our time frame could be between the 7th and the 17th.

I imagine that time of year nearly anywhere in the US would be warmer than where you are at lol. Unfortunately that's all I got. Not a whole lot going on that time of year.

Yep! But it's also a long drive....

I'd search for Ice Bowls. We have them even in ice-free regions, you know. They tend to be less formal, sometimes very much so.

Sarasota hosts a nice Ice Bowl event and has a campground or RV park nearby with its own disc golf course but it is in early Feb. The 17th SWF Open is in January at the North FT Myers course (I think its a B-tier).

Unless you are in Florida of course! (we have two nearby tournaments this weekend: Toys for Tots on Sat. and The Snake and Lake Partake on Sun.)
