Default More league help

I didn't want to steal any thunder in the other thread since this isn't about format, just trying to drum up interest and get players out.

I am running the only mixed doubles league that I know of in the area. It is run at our newest park which has some serious recreational action...we have seen many couples and many families playing, moreso than any other DGC we visit.

We do a best lie format with men from the blues and women from the reds. Currently there is no buy in which I had hoped would attract more people, maybe it is driving them away? I think I am going to have a small fee which equates to about a buck a player next year.

I am doing a bi-seasonal deal (Fall-Winter and Spring-Summer) each season the trophy is awarded and prizes given.

First time out we had 3 couples, second time 2 and that was kind of my fault as we played a tourney the sunday it was supposed to be held and moved it a week ahead.

We sponsored a hole at the last tourney and the TD was cool enough to mention the league at the awards ceremony so I hope that helps.

Just trying to get some ideas to get attendance up.

I was actually thinking instead of meager cash to have a big prize fund at the end of the season too...there are a lot of restaurants that will give 50% off gift cards so you can get $50 for $25 so $100 in prize money could turn into $200 easy by using these...I figure this is a better gift for couples than a disc or $10. Play 4 rounds to qualify (out of 6), pay $15 and walk out with $50...make sense?

So ideas please, if you and your wife play casually what would get you out for a really super casual league?

Other ideas I have had:

Bring a new couple and get a mulligan
Bring 2 couples and get a stroke of your total

(these are in effect)

Also had a thought about buying 3-4 X-out leopards and putters and offering them at league buy-in price for brand new players. They would also get their first round with both from reds to help even the playing field. This might attract people who have not played but thought about it.

Have you posted this at the course or on local forums?

How many rounds?

If you are looking for more recreational players, I think you would be better off having only 1 round, 2 rounds tops if you are referring to couples with kids. Its hard to keep kids out there all that long.

I'm actually more sure that this is why Christy encourages him to...

From reading your description, it sounds like a couples league. If that's the case, I find it's very difficult to get women out golfing.

Is there a bulletin board at the course? I'd make a flier for the league and advertise at the course and other near-by courses. That's usually a good way to spread the word.

Yes there is a flier at the course and at the other local course. Yes it is on the local boards.

Yes it is a couples league or father/daughter mother/son whatever...man/woman girl/boy...single round.

We have never had anyone bring kids out but I guess I should show that it is ok to do so...we always find a babysitter.

The reason we thought it would be successful is the course might have 3-6 couples playing on it at all times.

I've seen lots of couples and mixed groups playing at Oregon Park, but I assume you mean Alexander. Have you thought of posting fliers around all the courses in town?
