Hi Steve--hope this doesn't get lost in all of this--i think this is an interesting discussion.

Standard deviation should tell us if there is score compression.

The relationship of the winners score to the SD at least implies how the basket choice would affect the eventual outcome--i.e., my statement that the winner would simply separate further from the pack. Or the top players would separate more.

This is where having lots of data sets becomes critical to weed out anomalies.

If you have to scramble up a Rock face to retrieve a disc maybe it's too gimmicky.

I think sometimes OB and elevated baskets are added not to raise all scores but to achieve better score separation. The two are not the same. Remember back in school? Some tests everyone got A's on. Tells the teacher nothing. Some tests almost everyone did poorly. Again little info is gained. The best tests were the ones with a wide scoring distribution.

Amazing.

This was a reference to how the goalposts keep getting moved.

If they were smaller, they would be easier for you guys to move them again.

Get it?

Wrong. NFL and NCAA goalposts are 18'6" apart.

Even if Mcbeth is shouting about "thinner" baskets, you wont get this generation to understand why we should make something more difficult.

They dont understand the full picture of what it will accomplish. They get stuck on a singular thought ,even though their courses are constantly changing and the baskets have no uniformity.....dont you dare make it harder for them

Want to make it harder for pros?

Limit the speed on discs.

No course change needed. Freaking easy to implement. Done.

That won't solve much honestly. They can still throw speed 9 driver whatever 500 feet. The problem isn't distance, it's lack of fairways on many holes, artificial OB, silly mandos, baskets on mounds or severe slopes and the easiness of putting. Much of those happen or are caused by the large catching device.

Yep, the entire game changes once the target gets to where it should be.
