Default Viking retooled?

So I was at GGGT today, thumbing through Champion Vikings, and I notice something strange. A different rim. I look at the bottom and the new ones are indeed different, smoother ramp with a deeper rim, marked "VG" instead of the "VK" that I am used to. When did this happen? Anyone have more info?

VK on left, VG on right.

I wanted to try one out, but they molded up poorly, too much flashing for my tastes.

Interesting. And higher PLH should suggest more stability.

And the Beast was also retooled, albeit back to an older, more OS configuration.... hmmmm.

Looks like a Viking-stamped-Thunderbird to me. Maybe they got rid of the Viking mold and from now on it's all just the Thunderbird mold.

Are all of them labeled BSTX? In all plastics?

I only looked at the Champions, so I cannot confirm nor deny.

It felt like it could share genetics with the Thunderbird/FD3 but it doesn't have the little notchy nosebead thing on the outer edge of the rim that those two have. I would wager that the VG Viking will be more overstable than them both, though.

All I know is that it pissed me off! All of the old VK molds were domey, and the two max weight VGs I found had inexcusable flashing. All I wanted was another nice flat max weight Viking...
