Default Hello from a new user.

Since there isn't a "New User" subforum, I thought I would introduce myself here.

I'm Dave from Oklahoma City. I'm a graphic designer and co-owner of a publishing company. I'm also an artist, musician and avid billiards player.

I've been playing disc golf since the mid 90's, although, at the time, it was only something to do. It wasn't until the first part of last year that I started taking DG seriously. Since then, my enthusiasm for DG has eclipsed that of billiards.

In the fall of last year, I started browsing these forums (as well as others *cough*cough*) for tips, experience stories and advice given to others. Many thanks to all those who have given their time towards helping others and sharing their experiences in this all-too-addicting sport.

Now for some stories: my friend (chrismalatesta) and I were playing Tye F. Cunningham DGC in Edmond when we encountered some new players on hole 15. They saw Chris and me tee off (I used a TeeBird) and started to ask questions. I wouldn't have been able to give sound advice if it wasn't for this forum. Especially in regards to OAT. Since I forehand most shots, this is something that I can effectively demonstrate. I grabbed my Buzzz and threw it towards the hole while over-torquing. I was pleasantly surprised when I parked the hole. (Maybe there is something to this discing-down business after all.) We answered some more questions and parted ways with the new players. After Chris and I finished the round, we were walking back through the course (as there was major construction going on on holes 18, 1, 2, and 3) and played 15 again. I teed off with the Buzzz, this time without OAT, and parked it for the second time. I haven't really thrown a driver since.

I decided to disc down for the foreseeable future and acquired a 11x Roc, Buzzz SS, and all of the MVP molds in the last month. I also decided to build a backhand from the ground-up. I've been working on that in the field and it is coming along nicely (Buzzz up to 200').

I'm also helping one of the most un-athletic people that I know learn how to throw. At the end of our last session, I wanted to show him some different types of throws. I grabbed my Valkyrie and proceeded to show him a turn-and-burn, roller, flat helix, flex and hyzer flip. All of the throws, with the exception of the turn-and-burn and hyzer flip, went around 300' into the wind (I average 320'). The hyzer flip ended up being the best throw I've ever had; breaking the 350' mark easily. Working with putters/mids has really spurred my growth.

I'm sorry for the novella, but this is a combination of a few stories that I've been wanting to share. Again, thanks to all of those on this forum that have unwittingly helped me in the last few months.

D.
