I am just using the heat from a blow dryer every once in awhile. I think the main key is for the disc to be warm to begin with and to use bright white discs to get the brightest colors.

Just a thought. To keep the dye moist while you are letting your dye sit. I have a large pan with a lid that I use when I paint with laundry detergent to keep the dye moist. I put a splash of water in the bottom and let it sit in the pan. The water keeps the dye moist enough to allow the dye to absorb easier. Caution! To much water will make the dye run. I'm sure a tupperware container or something like that would work as well. I've never found the need to add heat. It actually has been counter productive. Moisture is the key.

Here are the ingredients in Punky Colour. I noticed that glycerin is the 2nd ingredient. I wonder if that would help with the lighter masked brainwaves.

De-ionized water, glycerin, stearealkonium chloride, PEG-100 stearate, cetyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate, ceteareth-20, mineral oil, methylchloroisothlazolinone, methylisoyhiazolinone. May also contain: green #4, basic blue #3, brilliant red #15, yellow, D&C violet #2, D&C orange #5, D&C brown #1, fragrance
