I know, right? I wanted to make sure everyone knew it was wise to set their VCRs to record in EP mode so they don't run out of tape before the possible playoffs.

By the way, if there is a playoff in MPO, there is a one in three chance it will include Paul, and a one in four chance it will not include any of Paul, Eagle, or Ricky.

In FPO, if there is a playoff, there is a one in four chance it will include Catrina, a one in four chance it will include Paige P., and a 50/50 chance it will include neither.

I don't like sudden death playoffs in theory, especially for majors, but when I'm actually watching it live I'm always hoping and praying for a playoff. I would prefer that we have a specific rule for majors. Maybe a mandatory 9 hole playoff or at least 3 holes.

True enough, that thread did devolve into that. Still, it's there for those that want to read it.

I'd bet the House (in Monopoly money) that Paige Pierce will win the Women's side. I was strongly in the Paul McBeth camp earlier, but as I think about it, it's possible he could have a bad day or bad tournament, and someone could have a 'perfect storm' week like Barsby did last year.

So I think the new plastic makes McBeth the 5x champ.

while that does seem like it would be more fair, there's way more drama/pressure in sudden death. plus daylight.

100%. That's why It's so fun as a fan, but I could not imagine grinding for 5 rounds of golf then settling it with sudden death. Depends on how you look at it I guess. A stroke is a stroke and it's not much different than winning by 1 on the final hole.

I actually studied this. The form of playoff doesn't matter. If two players got the same total score after 5 rounds it is very likely the result of playing at almost exactly the same level of skill for the event. So, any kind of playoff could just as easily result in either of them winning.

The most fair thing to do would be to recognize that they both played equally well.

So, there's no need to waste time playing more holes than the absolute minimum of sudden death.

Stupid question... could any player with the money to enter the event, win and be crowned world champ and get his photo on the PDGA website? Or is there any other criteria leading up to this event to insure the title of "world champ" is valid?

Can you give an example of how a PDGA member in good standing could enter the MPO division at the World Championship, beat all the other players at the event and have the title not be valid?

I simply would have agreed it was a stupid question.

The world champ is the winner of the tournament. If any person enters the tournament and wins the tournament, what could possibly be invalid about it? Unless there's some sort of cheating going on during the tournament, the winner is the winner. What exactly are you trying to insinuate?
