I agree we need accurate numbers, and we should have every expectation of a disc generally conforming to the advertised numbers. What I think is not set in stone is the definition of what makes a "fairway driver" and what makes a "distance driver".

I'm told my Valkyrie is a "distance driver", as it is a speed 9 disc. Funny, I use it almost exclusively in situations corresponding to what most people would consider to be a "fairway driver" or "control driver" situation. COULD I throw it for maximum distance? Sure.

Point is that for me, Speed 9 is the transitional stage for my use of a control driver vs. a distance driver. For some, that transition might be at Speed 10, for some at Speed 7.

And I do agree with you that the advertising and marketing of things is such that one should develop a healthy skepticism of what one is reading. Hence, the necessity of boards like these...

^lol im the opposite valks are for max distance but my PD's are mostly fairway duties.

Flight #'s just like par is just a number. Paul Mcbeth in the bag he classifies the thunderbird, PD, and Firechicken as fairway drivers... Fairway drivers for him mean 400ft of distance though...lol

I'm excited for the new FD3 then again... You're not really going to out Firechicken a Firechicken

It does have a starfire component. The tester is marked "SF" for "Starfire Firebird". I don't actually know the combo but it's some kind of hybrid of those two.

(if the threads merge, please delete this post) From the other thread with the side by side pics, it looks like a Firebird bottom wing with a Starfire top.

I thought the starfire already was a firebird wing with a different top?

Sound like a lot of saturation around that speed/stability slot.

Now we have:
1) PD
2) Starfire
3) Thunderbird
4) Firebird
5) OLF*
6) FD3

I was under the impression all of these "molds" use the common Firebird wing/bottom mold.

The beauty of the PD has always been that it can cover all of those slots as it seasons.
The FD3 sounds like a slightly slower 1st run C-PD.

I don't think the thunderbird really belongs in that list. It's got too much turn and glide to be in the same discussion, and I don't THINK it has firebird mold pieces (tho I could be wrong).
