Michigan New Course Updates

I see that the grade school that I went to in Portage (Amberly) has a course now. I lived right across the street from the school. Some of those trees in the woods we planted on Arbor days.

I may be in the Kensington Toboggan area in early August. Per the park website:

Public play will take place the following dates:
5/28/21 – 6/6/21
6/14/21 – 7/18/21
The course will close and baskets will be pulled following the DGLO for the remainder of the summer.

DGLO is July 22-25. Would it be safe to assume that the course is not likely to be available in early August? Thanks!

Not likely. Baskets are usually pulled within a couple of days of DGLO ending.

And if I'm totally honest, the holes they eliminated were the weakest holes on the course. The difference between a good tee shot and a great tee shot was luck... not skill. Even with with a great line off the tee, getting a birdie look was a matter of luck. Not the case anymore.

Also nice to see Roman again. It's been a few years.

I'm just down the road from this little course. It's the site of where my son first beat me on a hole, using the very trees planted for Arbor Day back when you were there. Less than 2 years later, he beat me for a real entire round at VIRA. About six weeks ago he got me in a sanctioned event for one of the rounds in an A-tier, also at VIRA, and it was rated 905 or so.

Amberly is great, and much needed, for kids! A fifth-grade teacher there is behind the project, a super cool guy.

The first hole my son beat me on was hole A at Flip. Still hasn't beat me for a full round though

Update on Hawthorne Park, in Pontiac. There were only 12 holes when I played it early May. There are now 18 distinct holes, I've uploaded map of the finished layout.

There are already several concrete tees on the ground, with more on the way. I saw a few framed out but not poured yet, and a pallet with several bags of cement for the remaining tees. I started playing and snapping pix... then the skies opened up on me after #3. But I saw a couple of the new fairways on my way back to my car.

In it's current state, it's a very playable work in progress, but I'm gonna wait until it's complete before updating again.

Visiting this thread also reminded me to check on the status of the course going in at Independence Green Apts, in Farmington Hills. Superberry is working on that.

Showed up to play Flip last Wednesday before league to find out they recently started a morning league so we had to kill time until 1pm. UDisc had this joint just a few minutes away and the owner was amenable to being added to the directory. Not going to review as frames for concrete on the Blue tees are only partially in with none poured as of yet. Fun spin though and I uploaded a full set of pics if you’re interested. I’m sure a few extra usage fees would help get those tees poured sooner.
