The overmold and core are the same plastic, one just has a weighting agent and one does not. That's the only way they fuse together.

Wait what about proton for example? And electron? Same plastic in the rim in that case?

EDIT and what about Innova's atlas and nova? And the lat64 overmolds? These all fuse different plastics, and my thermostat analogy would/could still hold up.

Zam explained it in another thread, i don't know exactly where it is but it is probably in the MVP disc sports thread... it was discussing Volts (may be in that thread too). Innova doesn't use the same binding as MVP and I don't know about the L64 ones.

I'm interested in this, someone link if they can find it please.

The only GYRO I bag is an envy. I figured all the overmolds were the same, now I wonder if the overmold on proton is different than neutron etc.

If memory serves, I believe I was told that there is one type of overmold for the MVP/Axiom premium plastic (Proton/Neutron/Fission/Plasma) and one type for the baseline Electron plastic.

Found it. I kinda paraphrased a bit but this is Zam's response. Looks like it's the same plastic family but not exact same plastic, must have missed that point haha

The normal black overmold can match to all the urethane/premium plastics. Only Electron/baseline needs its own formula. It only has to match a plastic family, not the subtype of plastic.

Hope that makes sense.

Oh right, I forgot the glow one. The experimental one doesn't count since I don't think you'll find that in production, so there are three (although the premium and the glow are probably pretty similar material).

The experimental Plasma mix is in production, and you'll find it on various (random, I think) discs. For example, I have it on my 1616 Plasma Insanity, and it's probably their best feeling premium overmold. (Their best ever OM, IMO, was the vapor-honed Electron on the Experimental Putter, but that didn't make it into normal production)

So it's sounding like to break in an MVP/Axiom disc it might be better to bake it in?
A half hour or so on warm in the oven?
