Divisions could be renamed to almost anything. Though I don't care for the ideas that are borne out of trying to protect someone's feelings. Whatever you name them, someone is not going to like it. The whole idea falls into the "it ain't broken" category for me.

catering to people's feelings isn't always a bad thing. if it increases participation and promotes playing one's proper division, that's a win and it's better for the rest of the community.

Break it out like reading level groups in elementary school. There's the gold group, the silver group, the red group, and the brown group. . .

Yeah, I've wondered what the actual value is of having the pro/am distinction.

What would happen to MA1? Cap it at 970?

Change the name of the division because of 20 events? What about the other 4000 events?

Something like that. I'd want to look at some numbers before setting a specific rating. Maybe where a 950 rated player would have a 50/50 shot at cashing in a big event.

Perhaps it wouldn't even be capped, just offer smaller prizes.

It would just be a step below MPO for players who are willing to admit they can't hang with the best, yet still need their fix of a chance at a cash prize, but can't use age or sex to get closer competition.

Of course, but I see it nothing but a slippery slope. In today's "woke" world, seems everything is an affront to someone.

As far as the value of the pro am distinction, disc manufacturers want to get disc golf in schools, colleges, the olympics, etc. Even now, kids need to be able to maintain amateur status and not lose out on a full ride to college or a trip to the olympics because they cashed at a disc golf tournament.

Casual can be perceived as one not taking the game seriously, I find this offensive.

I am color blind, I find using colors offensive.
