We agree! This isn't a team sport. However, the brands exist for far more reason than to sell plastic. Another very handy feature is being a title sponsor of many of the very events we enjoy watching.

There's no charade or unification. There is an attempt (in this concept) to get the manufacturers to compete outside retail. It would be interesting (to me) to crown the 'best' manufacturer each year.

A peripheral benefit to this format would be a higher priority on performance. As a result, we may start to see the entourage shrink...

Anyone else watch this week's Smashboxx episode? Terry and JVD asked both Dickerson and Uli about Paul, and both of them just smiled and played dumb. It looked to me like they knew he was leaving and wanted so badly to break the news, but didn't want to be the one to do so. Just the looks on their faces told it all.

Biggest question is- if Paul leaves Innova for another manufacturer will that manufacturer then have to come out with a putter that is unusable below 40 degrees?

I find this tidbit most interesting. Even if Paul stays with Innova, this is a nice nod to Nate for his performance in 2018 and his contributions to the Innova brand. Seems like the perfect person to take on the added responsibility of captain.

What are the responsibilities of a Captain though? Is Paul the current Captain? Not that it isn't great to see Nate getting some well-deserved recognition, but the position of Captain is not completely advertised.

No idea how Innova structures it, but in my experience, "Captain" is 50% honorary and 50% an extra conduit for the team members to communicate with the sponsor. He might be tasked with pushing team social media stuff or organizing team dinners or team rounds at a tournament, or nothing significant at all. Not really unlike a captain on a baseball or football team. Don't think it means extra pay and certainly it doesn't automatically mean the company is saying "this is our best/flagship/most important player".
