If only ratings at the USDGC even counted, failing to finish the round might make sense from that perspective (despite being against the spirit of the rule if not the letter).

I don't think it's that big of a deal. He knew he wasn't finishing the tournament anyway, so what difference does it make if he puts in the final putt of the round or not? Won't change his standing in the tournament.

I'm curious though...was it simply that he did not hole out on 18 or did he not play the hole at all? I know that udisc shows the live shot tracker and would have indicated if he'd thrown his tee shot in the moment, but those notes don't linger after the round. Given his scores on his last 5 holes, maybe he was hurting and couldn't physically continue and didn't throw 18 at all.


On a non-Climo note, who had Pierce shooting the better first round than McBeth? I don't expect her to stay ahead of him through the rest of the tournament, but that's got to feel good for her (even if he had to play poorly by his own standards for it to happen).

You're the stats guy Steve, what do you think needs to shoot over the next 3 rounds to have a chance? at least what -10 to -12 each?



...I guess if you're bored you could go back and actually try to figure out an average finish for the winners and what he would need but I'm not looking for anything that scientific... Plus the course is different this year. Just a guess would be fine.
