Watching the following video gave me some ideas to try on a shaving cream base layer. I'm new to dyeing, but curious if anyone has tried similar methods. You can get some amazing patterns by changing how you lay and pull the string.

Well gave it a first shot that I had already over dyed red. The blue is a little bit weaker than I hoped for but last time I went too heavy so I wanted to be more careful. I covered the string with dye laden shaving cream and laid the string in a spiral on the disc. I then pulled the string up from the center. You can see the pattern this creates in the third picture. Can you mix Laundry Detergent and Shaving Cream. I want to try soaking the string in a different dye mixture. The dyed shaving cream really pulls on the base shaving cream making it hard to keep a flat surface |

I think I would just try straight detergent. I have always liked that better than SC. SC gets too smushed by the disc and it always changes and spreads out the design alot. Detergent is far denser, so the disc sinks less and the design stays more intact. |

I thought this was going to be the newest form drill thing.

Well I got a 2nd disc laying in a puddle of detergent. Will post some updated pics after work today.
My shoe lace did make better patterns in the detergent, but it seemed like the lace sunk into the detergent. Not sure if the dye stayed on top of the detergent. I need to find a lighter rope/string to pull through the detergent. |

I mixed about 1/2 tsp of iDye Poly and 1 cup water. Then I mixed about 2 tsp of the water/dye mix with a 2 tbsp-ish of detergent.

Detergent dye attempt went much worse, nearly no color transferred onto the disc. After pulling the disc up I could still see the dye in the detergent and the dye seemed fairly undisturbed.
Will try more stuff this weekend.
