what is the reasoning behind having max weight limits for discs? it seems like an unneeded and unenforceable rule.

Too Heavy of discs become unfair ... It would be like throwing Rocks at Baskets ..

Defeats the purpose of throwing a Frisbee/Disc

It's sort of a density limit, with an overall max weight of 200g. What do you mean by unneeded? Really dense/heavy discs would be pretty dangerous, and would change the game quite a bit.
