Oh well...

3rd run Ions have a textured underside, like intentionally molded. Probably not what you're talking about. This isn't visible in the pics above.

If you click on one of the pictures on the Ion page there and scroll through, there are some pretty high quality pictures. If you look at numbers 17, 19, and 31, it should give you a good idea of what they mean by textured, especially the black #31. The outside section of the underside of the flight plate has an almost grainy look to it compared to the smooth middle and top.

If I could get my hands on some, I would definitely be throwing them.

If you go to the bottom of that page, there's more explanations about the texture and each run. What's surprising to me is how rare early Ions are, especially the FR's. IIRC, the Anode was MVP's 4th mold released (After Ion, Vector, and Axis), and never had the same tooling.

So it's the underside that's textured. Ok, my bad.

Small bead vs large bead. They have less fade and more glide than the production Ions, fly more like the Anode I guess but with a bead.

Word. Do you actually like the texture? Always felt odd to me but didnt care one way or the other. Anodes are sure as hell a lot cheaper these days! Lol. Looks like you have a good stock to work with for a while.

Still have any old ones lying around, or did you ditch them a while ago?
