Don't cry Zontar. Very few of us possess the skills needed to become pro. Let me tell you a little story about skill gap. I played in a local tourney that was singles the first round and seeded doubles in the second round. I shot a +27 (22 holes white) in the first round, poor enough that I was seeded with a local pro in the second round. Together, we shot a -6 same course same layout. Enjoy the pros doing things that we can't and remember: Have Fun!

Well what the ish. I’ve thrown 400 before, but I’m still only a 910.

How far to be 920? That’s what i want to know!

... but, to compete on tour, I agree 450 is probably a minimum.

I played with a guy who could bomb 500' drives consistently but couldn't throw 200' to save his life. So distance is cool but it doesn't always add up to being a good golfer.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I know several people with cannons for arms, but they are like young Nolan Ryan...no accuracy. Caveat to that is I would say AT LEAST you need to be able to throw a dead-accurate 350 foot pure hyzer to even sniff 1000-rated, no matter where you live. I picked 450 in the poll, but that's really totally arbitrary.

Having said all that, accurate drives at 400 plus is going to shave many strokes off your score each round. 350 accurate and lights out putting still loses to 450 accurate and close to lights-out putting any day.

Snapper Pierson topped out at 1007. The one time I played with him 15 years ago, I'm guessing his max was 310'ish. He was by far the most accurate thrower I've ever seen.

Anyone know 1000 rated players that don't have "elite" distance? Any 1000 rated players throwing 350 max d?

you need to be throwing the same scores as othr 1000 rated players throw at pdga sanctioned tournaments to be 1000 rated.

the easiest way to do so is to play tournaments where you have the best chance at throwing the same total scores as other 1000 rated players are playing.

1st things its in your best interest to throw tournaments with more 1000 rated player playing.

if you don't have the distance to score as well other huge armed 1000 rated pros on certain courses (example GBO golf course) then you can find courses that you can score as well (maybe shorter wooded courses).

sorry for not directly answering your question but thats the best way.

Hey, Johnny V, wasn't Terry rated 1000 for a while? (Or very close to it?)

I don't think he had that much power, but was an excellent putter back in the day, and I think that's still the strongest part of his game.
