FWIW, I've yet to see any course map that gave me the impression a course was truly special. They're a great navigational aid, and for providing logistical info, but they don't even come close to providing any sort of idea how good a course is.

However I have seen maps that were able convey that a course was bad.

Looks like a nice park but without some pics I have a hard time believing its a 5 judging from the aerial view map...

...and the rendered map is showing a triple mando of some kind...

Not to mention it looks to have a couple ridiculously long walks after 9 being the most notable...
Lawson Lake DGC is still in its infant stage and has some issues but I have to agree with the review about it being one of KC best courses. Have played the course only twice and is no doubt one of my favorite metro courses only behind Water Works and Blue Valley. This is a serious course with great equipment and beautiful landscapes. Also the city of Lawson only has a population of 2500 and I have yet to see a disc golfer there. Thinking about this course will hopefully get me out there this weekend.

I guess it just annoys me when I see a 5disc review for a course with no pics. Especially when its a short review and obviously just there to promote the course. I think taking some pics to justify the rating would probably do a better job of that.

What annoys me are 0.5-1.0, or 4.5-5.0 ratings with reviews that have no substance. When something is truly exceptional, you should be able to describe how/why it's so much better or worse than the norm. If you're unable to explain what makes it exptional, chances are:

1) It's really isn't exceptional.
2) You have no idea how to rate whatever it is you're rating/reviewing.
3) All of the above.

It's a bad review when taken in context of his other review from the same day for Bad Rock Creek. That course has a 4.31 rating w/ 16 reviews. His comments for this seemingly great/near elite-level course (based on its rating) are:

Cons: Nothing about this course "pops" out at you. Fairly mundane
Other Thoughts: Decent enough course to practice on. Not too difficult and not too easy.

So an exceptional course he calls 'fairly mundane.' As for the course he rates a 5.0, his observations include 'Very clean.' 'Baskets brand new.' 'No graffiti or anything either.' Seems like someone you wouldn't want to trust for a recommendation for anything.

Judging from this and his other reviews, we have a review troll on our hands...

Pros: Get a golf cart and beer- throw discs, get hammered, and do donuts in the green(just kidding- do donuts elsewhere than the green.) This course is flipping amazing when you are riding around in golf carts.

Cons: The ponds are really nasty if you need to go in to recover a lost disc. Beware regular golfers who have been known to mock disc golfers for being hippy losers.

Other Thoughts: This is a great open course for beginners to learn how to play. There is almost always a lot of wind so it is a good way to practice learning how to work around the wind.

You know you are an intermediate player if you can score 27 or less on this 9 hole course.
9 holes... 5 discs... smfh

I have it checking all three of Bogey's criteria

sadly now the highest rated course in Sarasota. I wish that if someone's thumb-down count was lower than their thumb-up count, that their reviews wouldn't get factored into the course rating. or perhaps use unique voter thumb ups vs unique voter thumb downs.

I don't know? I just noticed that this Skylab reviewer had played and reviewed quite a few of the same Sarasota courses that I had previously played.

Now I'm not sure what planet Skylab is from. He certainly interjects some interesting lines and thoughts BUT what I do know is, I found something to laugh at in each of his reviews. I even called my wife in to show her and she found each and every review amusing. Skylab, you get nothing but thumbs up from me. And I even allowed the wife to push the thumbs up review button on one making it her first ever thumber. I hope Tim doesn't sanction me for this transgression.
