Default Seasoned Thunderbird vs. Stag

I have had the same champ Thunderbird in my bag for 3 or 4 years but recently lost it. I used it primarily as a overhand disc but it also filled in as a utility fh disc. I have a VIP stag that flys semi similar but I just don't feel as confident throwing it overhand. So should I just suck it up and get used to the stag or start the process of breaking in another Thunderbird to my liking?

Any thoughts on flight differences overhead ?
Or low speed stability differences as this is how I use it as a fh utlily disc.

For reference to the lost Thunderbird it was about a 6-7 on the sleepy no real damage just a nice broke in bird

Depends on the OH shot you use it for, I use a Stag as my primary BH fairway driver and use the more beat ones for quickly turning OH shots that may have some height, but not a ton of left or right play.

If you need them to pan like a Firebird it’s never going to do that though.

I have a fresh VIP Stag that I have tried a couple of times backhand. For me it’s a little bit US out of the box. I get good distance with it and it provides good glide.

I have also thrown Thunderbird both in Star and champion and for me it flies fairly OS. Especially the one is star flies similar to a Firebird.

Now I have pretty much given up on Teebird and Thunderbird. I now throw mainly ESP Undertaker. For me on backhand I have one beat in to being like a 6/10 and one 8/10. The 6 out of 10 gives me a S flight and I use it for straight shots around 90-110m. The 8 out of 10 flips to flat and don’t really get a S out of it. I tend to throw this in a smaller headwinds to get the same flight as my 6/10 undertaker would in 0 headwind

I know you are talking about overhand and not backhand shots, but I figured since I have thrown Stag and Thunderbird my opinion might be worth something for you.

These 2 discs are so far from each other in my mind. Even a beat thunderbird is going to be considerably more stable than a new stag. A thunderbird in pro or even dx could mimic the flight of your beat up champion. I don’t throw overhand for distance, but I have always thought it was a shot that needed a stable disc. Firebird or nuke OS type stuff is what I’ve seen used

If your looking for that quickly turning shot that doesn’t need to go that far, a Stag can work well. Thunderbird is going to pan more and is better for that snakey twisting wooded thumber shot.
