We have pro's playing entire tournaments and not missing a single putt. That is a fact. We have 18 under rounds. Another fact.

But if perfect rounds and perfect putting won't convince you or anyone else the game is too easy then you never will realize it.

They are all throws outside of C1. You can extend the circle some if you want but players will still hit 95% of C1 putts. Heck Dickerson hits 91.75% from 25 feet during the indoor league on the large basket. Is 90+% a high percentage?

So you're comfortable defining a player as never having missed a putt if they putt from 34 feet and miss then tap in from <5ft 18 holes in a row. And they'd also have 100% C1X.

And, looking at the season stats Andrew Marwede is the best C1X putter and averaged 88%. So I'm fully in agreement that we should make the baskets bigger...

Let's say the DGPT and/or PDGA actually stated they wanted to make putting tougher. There's no question that making the target smaller would do the job. But it would rank below some other alternatives that would make putting tougher and provide other benefits, including lower cost, in comparison. Just one example. If one way to make putting tougher would be to increase the projectile size to target size ratio, isn't it easier to require putting with a larger projectile that's commercially available than the cost and availability to redesign and manufacture a smaller target?

Simply require use of a Super Class (SC) disc for putting when landing within C1.5 (15 meters). SC discs are at least 3 cm larger diameter and taller rim than current 21cm putters. This idea can be tested everywhere today in unsanctioned or X-tier events. You still get the excitement of putts made with current putters outside 15 meters, then a bit more tension builds for putts inside 15 meters, especially with wind. SC discs are legal up to 200g to help with headwinds.

Bigger, taller, slower discs are easier to watch on video. These discs require slightly different throwing mechanics. But then, shouldn't the goal be to make putting a different style of throwing in the same way putting in ball golf is a different skill set than lofting the ball down the fairway? Amateurs would not have to change putters at all. Changing to SC disc putting rules from regular putters would be a clear delineation between pro division play (maybe not Masters) versus amateur play with no baskets on current courses becoming obsolete and all divisions being able to play on the same course at the same time.

Or stretch even farther and require Ultimate diameter discs at 27cm diameter for putting. This is already being tested unofficially this fall with the USA Ultimate/PDGA derby initiative. If putting were done with Ultimate discs in elite level events, think how many more Ultimate players might be attracted to and competitive in disc golf? In that case, I would think a bigger basket tray versus narrower chains would be popular with both pros and ams to better accommodate Ultimate discs and make putting a bit more fun for Ams using regular discs.

BTW, I'm not promoting these alternatives as what should be done, but simply indicating there may be better ways to go than narrower basket chains that can be tested.
