You stated that a tie, being partially luck, undermines the skill of making the playoff.

I pointed out that Aces are partially luck, which undermines the skill of making an ace.

...but more that 'being partially luck it undermines the idea that you have earnt being in the play off AND therefore you have ALSO earnt extra goes in the ace pot'

Some people have said that being in a playoff means you have 'earnt' extra goes at the ace pot.

I was making two counter points:

1 - that being in a playoff isn't purely 'earnt' by skill, it is partially down to luck - so this is a flaw in the argument that you have 'earnt' extra goes at the ace pot (through skill).

and, the bigger point,

2 - that I don't think you should you be able to 'earn' extra goes at the ace pot AT ALL. Not by skill, not by having a charming face, etc. Other than possibly by paying in more money.

While true, not actually relevant to the points I was trying (possibly not very clearly) to make. :-)

Ones attempts at the game (ace pot) are earnt by paying in to the game. Whether winning the game (getting an ace) is skill or purely random (rolling a dice) is not important.

I agree, krupicka. If you are going to exclude a certain ACE in a Tourney, it best well be made known in the Players meeting, and/or any published tourney rules, that it has been planned that way by the TD, pertaining to an Ace Pot. I say this after some local drama where a well known TD and shop owner didn't clarify, and really upset folks when he refused to pay out in a similar situation. The Ace pot was over $700. The TD ended up handing the guy that got the Ace $100 of the Ace pot and supposedly pocketed the rest of the over $700 pot for "Tourney Expenses." He was supposedly reported to the PDGA, but I don't know the specifics of that outcome. I just stay away, now.
