I drove a car to the dock then I took a boat, a bus and then walked .25 mile to the course on Nantucket Island, not a train though.

My one and only international round in 2004 involved taking a train from Zurich, SWI to Winterthur, SWI (about 30min) and then a 12 block bus ride to Winterthur Gruze. I had arranged to meet a local there ahead of time so that made the round enjoyable. After, he dropped me back at the station for the ride back. Europe is more adapted to train travel, you could do a disc golf train tour if you planned ahead.

I almost did this on my New England trip last week. The cost of the ferry ride and time was too much of a deterrent.

Not yet. I am considering trying it out as a course starved city dweller. In particular for getting out to Dellwood here in Illinois because one of our Metra trains does happen to have a stop not terribly far away from it.
