The single biggest advent to the improvement to professional ball golfers in the last 20 years has been ball flight monitors. They have changed everything about ball golf (maybe not by much, but their effects can be seen in all components of hitting a small ball with some soft of stick). Even just filming the flight of your disc, you can only observe what it is doing to a certain degree. But to actually know what the disc is doing is a huge step forward. This would mostly be useful for a professional player who can repeatedly duplicate their throw and make slight tweaks to find the optimum flight numbers that they want, but certainly useful to other players as well. Although this type of thing was inevitable, it is so exciting to finally see and has me super pumped now that I have finally seen it be more than just a neat idea. Now, to find out how effective this application of the idea it is.

I wonder if there's a feature that tells me if it's gone in the basket yet

The guy seems really confused about the RAM size and maybe that is due to not being familiar with the sport. My assumption would be that only max values are stored on the RAM and the MCU will manage all of the data.

Anyway, this is something that seemed inevitable once PDGA approved inclusion of electronics inside a disc and a product that I have been eagerly waiting for ever since.

I would be really interested in comparing my results with other guys who throw further. Understanding the difference in spin and acceleration could help me determine where I need to improve most.

Westside is playing it pretty close to the vest right now, but I've got a little more on the tech here:

Westside discs developing 'smart disc' technology

I'll be curious to see what everyone thinks...

Good stuff as always.

Price vs durability will be interesting...

Apparently any hard contact may damage the unit. Better add a function that hears your voice yelling to avoid an ace.

I would mostly be interested in this as a training tool. Go in a field and throw to get info and practice until I get the stats I am looking to achieve, within reason of my ability of course. Immediate feedback allows for immediate tweaking of throwing form. I can do that now with any disc, but I may not know if it is speed, spin, or combination of the two producing the flight I am seeing. Also, finally find out just how much you actually put OAT on a disc. So even if cost is triple the average disc, no big deal for something that is not intended to suffer "course play" wear and tear.

Skip aces to lessen the impact?

This is speculation on my end, but I imagine this is where a good portion of sales will come from. There is a pretty solid following of disc golfers out there who want to have a legitimate tool for improvement outside of form videos, so the market for this should be pretty strong.

That said, if/when they give me one of these to review, I plan to fully thrash it to test its durability.

I wonder if all three companies will have a disc with this tech available this year. Would be interesting to see how the market would react to a range of discs with different flight characteristics, when the tech only seems ready for field practice.

It would be pretty cool if the app could interpret the data into a flight chat with altitude information... I wonder how it'll handle rollers.

Eh...training how? We dont even know the data it will provide. Might be insightful but doubt you will be able to magically improve bc of seeing x or y values of a throw quantified. Id prefer course use application not wide open field testing. We play disc golf.
