Basketball players seeming constantly touch the soles of their shoes. Usually integrating in pre- free throw ritual.
Several disc golfers circa 2007 used to constantly adjust the sleeves of their collared shirts. I have seen many more disc golfers holding a second putter in off hand often tapping primarily putter against the off disc prior to putting/ putting rituals. These days I see some disc golfers feverishly shaking their driver in off throwing hand prior to drives. Question: what other viral rituals are out there? Who started them? What is the purpose? Shaking a driver is to get it as dry as you can before a throw, especially when it’s hot and there might be a little sweat on there. Adjusting the sleeve seems to be a comfort thing, or a range of motion thing. When it gets hot and humid those sleeves can fall in weird ways.
The other stuff I’m not sure about, but sports players tend to be superstitious and routine oriented. You tap those putters together one time and follow it by sinking a 50’ putt, you probably start tapping them together more often, and it just gets worked into your routine. |

On tee boxes I start at my launch point and paw my foot at the ground a couple times like a horse before stepping back for my throw.
Likely started playing on slick pads pads but now a normal routine. |

Is it really a ritual if it serves a purpose?

I do the putter tap thing, it became part of my routine like this:
Practice putting at home I always have 1-2 other discs in my hand. When I'm lining up my putt I always "aim" the triangle swoosh of the "F' right at my target, then I line the tip of my thumb up with the other triangle/swoosh of the "F" So the tap comes from me using the other disc as a flat surface to spin my putter on to adjust the aim slightly how I want. I've messed around with having only a single putter in hand and don't really notice any difference in accuracy other than I like how it feels with a putter in the off hand so I've stuck with it now. If I miss a longer putt with both putters in hand I'll usually just finish the come back putt, sans tap with the putter still left in my hand. picture of my putter for reference to the F swoosh |

I always make sure the stamp is facing the "right way" which for me means it will look like the firebird above in my hand before I throw. Not sure why, it's just what I do. I also never flip a disc. I do not play seriously and if I am so concerned about being 7" closer, then I'm taking it too seriously. I also practice the snap I intend to use before each shot. I don't keep score but I enjoy watching good shots. More so if I threw them.

I dig Cales habit of blowing his disc after he picks it up. Seems unique. |

Ricky always knocks the spider webs off his discs before he drives.
His bag/cart is full of spiders. You heard it here first! |
