Been playin for a little over a year. Played ultimate for a decade. I know my form needs improvement because I cant throw my drivers farther than 370.
This is a few weeks ago: #1 - https://youtu.be/5DVpeZwS-q8 That was a 14 speed colossus that I threw almost as hard as i could and it went 320. Watched it back and it was clear my plant foot and hips were open and I was all upper body. So I tried to close it up a bit, this is last week: #2 - https://youtu.be/2gm3Z-IKlj0 #3 - https://youtu.be/4K_oN-tBHpA I also tried to get the disc more into the pocket and hang onto it longer. As you can see in #2 I started yanking them right and hyzering by accident and that is still happening pretty often. Also I was throwing nose up which I am trying to fix. So heres today: #4 - https://youtu.be/jybQ65B-v7o #5 - https://youtu.be/5my5w6udKzc Way better and seems to be hurting my body less, I guess because my lower body is now helping at least a little bit. But my distance on drives hasnt really changed, so I am open to suggestions on further tweaks to make. PS: I am tiny and have been trying to emulate aspects of McB and Emerson Keiths form. It seems logical to watch the form of players with similar build, those are the only two shorter guys I have seen really rip. Sponsored Links

Note in the sideview how your rear foot/heel just spins out in place or actually backs away from target instead of moving forward during the swing. And your rear arm is behind your back/slapping your butt, instead of in front of your body/crotch grab/holding beverage. Your front knee also snaps into hyperextend because your rear foot is spinning out and leaving your CoG too far behind the front foot instead of moving you balanced forward onto the front leg.
Recommend slowing down and taking shorter x-step or hopping/galloping more to stay more balanced upright on rear foot/leg and gliding forward. Your fast and deep x-step kind of tips your upper body back too far behind/outside your rear foot/leg to really leverage your center forward from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxnhM5amro0#t=23s https://www.dgcoursereview.com/forum...d.php?t=133319 https://www.dgcoursereview.com/forum...d.php?t=124523 |

Thanks. Yeah that left arm just does it’s own thing unless I focus specifically on it. Watching the clips with weight shift in mind, it actually seems to cancel out the forward movement by swinging out behind me, so i guess they go hand in hand.
Funny because I actually watched the Feldberg hip video yesterday and it felt so weird trying to make my hip go up. Maybe if I just try what you said about leveraging off the trailing foot/getting that ankle moving forward, the hip will go up as a result. Thanks again, will be back with more video. |

Ok so my first attempts were focused on the rear foot moving forward:
https://youtu.be/wtHngCoZ8fI Then I did some just focusing on the hip move from the Feldberg video: https://youtu.be/nWIC8dGnQy8 https://youtu.be/ubmhtLqzMig Not sure how much of a change I really made but it definitely felt better. And I threw an open field drive 398 according to UDisc which (if it really was) is an all time best. Obviously, my trailing arm is still all over the place and I’m not getting very deep into the pocket because I can only think about 1 or 2 things at a time. Also I don’t think my rear foot moved forward like you said it should in the second two clips. Certainly not the move GG is getting in the posture video. So I guess I just need to keep trying to build how many of these things I can do at a time until it comes together. Unless I’m missing something? |

Hop more vertical and use gravity for free acceleration, rather than relying on harder working horizontal speed, and get rear arm forward at plant. Steve Brinster is also tiny and bombs! USDGC distance champion (2002 IIRC)

Ok thanks, have been trying out the vertical hop with varied success so far. I think I need to reset some of the other points of focus to accompany the hop. This Destroyer is from today and clearly I wasn’t thinking about tucking the arm, and it looks like I’m trying too hard to bomb it, little out of control. But I did UDisc it to 401 feet so that’s enough to sell me on the hop!

Looks better. Your front leg/knee still kind of locks out and jam into the front hip instead of pivoting/clearing the front hip.

i watched the video but I’m not sure I understand what it means to “clear” the hip. But my foot is definitely flatter and more open in that throw than yours in your video, so I’ll try to lead with the closed toe and see if it eliminates the hip jam.

https://youtu.be/HAOoGvifWic Here’s a couple approach discs i tried to get clips of in the waning light. Felt like a smoother motion in the feet/legs. Still not sure if it’s a proper clear of the hip or not.

Looking better! Try swinging the disc closer into your center chest.
