Default USDGC Rock Hill Trip

Just got tickets for USDGC for me and my friends. Really excited to see a professional tournament and we also want to play somewhere while we are in Rock Hill. Thinking of Canaan River Bend because it's so highly rated. I'm just wondering if the local courses will be crowded because of more people in town. Anyone with experience going to major tournaments and/or knowledge of Rock Hill and local courses, places to eat, etc. who could chime in with some info would be appreciated.

I wouldn't think the area courses would be any more crowded.

Note that, unless things have changed, Camp Canaan is only open on weekends. Scheduled accordingly. It's well worth it.

The alternative is Charlotte, and the vast selection of courses there.

Thanks, David. I appreciate it the info on Camp Canaan. We may play in Charlotte on the way back. I've played 5-6 courses there now, including Torma Town and Sugaw just last week. I can always knock a couple more off my list. Was thinking of Boyd Hill in Rock Hill also, even though the reviews aren't very kind to it. Know anything about it?

No, sorry, never played Boyd Hill.

Camp Caanan isn't universally lauded, but mostly, and for myself, it's the course that made me eat my "no all-woods course will be a 5.0 to me" words. It's beautiful and memorable. But the scheduling is tricky; when I last played it was only on weekends, you had to be done by 5:00, and needed to schedule in advance. Those details may have changed; just check carefully before going.

Boyd Hill is OK. There are lots of better options in the region, but this is probably the closest course to Winthrop and it's worth bagging. It will likely have a good bit of extra traffic (at least it did when I went during USDGC), but we didn't wait too long.

Thanks a lot! I think that's the one we'll hit as I don't plan on being there over the weekend. Probably be there Wednesday and Thursday watching the tournament, then hit Boyd Hill Friday morning before heading home and maybe stopping in Charlotte to get a course we haven't played yet there.

I'd play just about anywhere in the Charlotte area instead of Boyd Hill. Chester State Park (30 minutes away from Rock Hill) is a nice track to try if you've played most of the Charlotte courses.

Chester SP looks great but it's south. We may just play Ren Park courses in Charlotte as we haven't done those yet or loop out east of Charlotte to play Scrapyard. Thanks for the info!

NO no no. Hornet Nest/web, Nevin Long, or Bradford park shorts, are the ones you should be thinking about.

What's your town by the way? The route you take back home?

We've played Hornet's Web and Nevin. Not played Bradford Park, so I'll check it out. Thanks!

We're in Greensboro, so it's 85.
