Yeah, I seriously think you will enjoy it! Bradford is one of my favorite "near Charlotte, but not quite Charlotte" courses. The course is usually in IMPECABLE condition, hopefully this big storm won't damage any of our courses too much! Good luck, hope you enjoy Bradford!

I think Robbins is really underrated — and it’s close to Bradford. Can’t go wrong with those two.

Don't forget that Plantation Ruins at Winget Park is only about 20 minutes north of Rock Hill, right off Hwy. 160.

I'd definitely prefer Bradford as an all-around great course, but Winget is fun, too. And not as strenuous if you've already played a round or two.

For Canaan, they don't require pre-registering. You can just show up, sign their waiver, and pay the six bucks. Good to go. It may get a little crowded during the Worlds; it's a postcard course if ever there was one. But it would be worth the time. Get out there early and beat the sleepyheads. No exaggeration: every time I've played it, there hasn't been a single other group anywhere near us.
We sometimes call it Viet-Canaan. You'll understand what I mean when you're out there.

Default Need Advice

So, spur of the moment, after seeing the pros for the first time at Worlds in Vermont, I bought plane tickets to Charlotte to hit Rock Hill...my first time in this area...

Agenda...

Tuesday...Fly in late afternoon...I'll be camping at Ebenezer State Park for 5 nights...

Wednesday...hit Rock Hill all day and watch several groups play...

Thursday...play Nevins at 7:30...then head back to USDGC to watch lead groups around noon...

Friday...play Hornets Nest at 7:30...then head to USDGC to watch lead groups around noon...

Saturday...play Renaissance Gold at 7:30...then watch lead groups around noon...

Sunday...sneak in a round at Canaan Riverbend before my flight home...

Any thoughts on courses chosen or suggestions that might be better?

Nevin, Nest and Renny are doozies and can take awhile to play if you aren't familiar with the layouts and/or lose a disc. I'd find a map for those if you haven't been there before. Those are the 3 courses I'd pick for the Queen City greatest hits album though.

Man, that's gonna be one fun trip right there. Weather is going to be beautiful, too; a tad warm for the season, but I'm guessing you won't mind some warmth if Buffalo is home...

BrotherDave is correct: Nevin and HoNest can be long days, even for someone who's been there. Just tough, technical courses, with Nevin being the least-forgiving. Renny Gold will wear you out, too, as well as eat some discs if you're unlucky.

I wouldn't change a thing, really. All of these are great tests. But I would ask you to send me a PM if you definitely plan to play Canaan Sunday. I was thinking of playing there myself, and...well, I can be your local guide, if you like.

Don't worry: I speak yankee.

Nice trip! Lead cards are normally 1:50 so you have plenty of time to play in the morning and catch the leaders. You have the right three courses if playing only three.
