Default OB Lines With Snow

Not sure how OB lines are marked at Las Vegas, but it brings up an interesting challenge for how to handle temporary OB marking with snow. Not in this case, but even trickier if the ground is frozen and you can't easily insert wire flags in the ground.

Typically, we just do away with OB unless the lines remain obvious even with the snowfall. Like, a fence along the property line is still clear enough to see when there's snow on the ground but the areas that are usually marked by rope or paint on the ground...they're in bounds in the snow.

Tougher situation with an event like Vegas where you don't generally expect to see snow at all, and OB is such a factor in course design. But from the pics and videos I've seen this morning, there's not enough snow on the ground to completely obscure whatever temp lines have been installed. I'd go about it the same way they do when they play football in the snow: have an idea where the lines are and dig down if you have to (or clear off the lines as best as possible as often as possible).

The OB golf greens at Vegas we’re defined by the first cut. Thursday morning’s snowfall had the potential to obscure those lines. Luckily the greens melted first, so there weren’t any issues. If the snow had been thicker, it would have been a more interesting morning.

The snow was spotty and was melting very quickly. It was mostly gone by 10:00am. There was a ton of rope for OB's and Hazards and it was easy enough to brush off any snow if needed. Todd is right about the greens. The snow did not stick to the super short greens at all and the snow actually defined the greens much better (from a distance) than without snow.

Here is an example of how the OB greens looked:

Around here, we just turn off the OB that isn't a fence. If it's water that you can stand on, it's in bounds.
