Still, I would like to have seen a comparable "modern" Discmania Speed 7 disc (FD?) against an Eclipse.
That could have been a good addition to the "test".

If you're looking at PDGA specs for Rim Config (sharpness), the Eclipse and DD3 are 26 and 26.25, respectively. In fact, the Eclipse was used to set the PDGA spec at 26 for smallest Rim Config allowed. So in terms of technology advances, Simon's video showed that manufacturers can now get 12 speed and higher with the smallest Rim Config allowed instead of 7 speed back then. However, I think it might have been better to use the distance champ from 1989 which was a 165 g Phenix. it might not have rolled as well as the DD3 but may have come closer to it on those distance tests than the Eclipse.

I believe the idea was to document the evolution of disc golf 'distance drivers' and show how they have changed/improved over the years. Also it's entertaining.

The original comment was about high speed drivers being useless for a lot of people, and he’s right- but also correct that an 11 speed is pretty pedestrian as far as “high speed drivers” go, so if you’re going to reach for one (which everyone is), the DD is a great choice- Certainly better than the max weight record-stamped champ boss every beginner I ever met bought, that’s for sure.

Buuuuut I do get that people have been drooling over a chance to “gotcha” the guy since he made the original statement so have fun blowing out your candles I guess lol

The DD is not a good choice as a first driver for newer players IMO. It's quite OS, a bit of a hog really. The DD is a precision driver like the PDx, infact, it is the exact same disc as the PDx
