Default Augusta GA from St. Louis MO... HELP

We are going to The International Disk Golf Center to play all 3 memorial courses and to South Carolina for Riverview, Hippodrome, and Pine Valley.

Along the way we are thinking...

Tennessee; Cedar Hill Park, Bud Hill
Georgia; Sandy Creek Park, Lake Russell, Flyboy Aviation
Alabama; Indian Creek
Mississippi; Old Warrior Run
Other thoughts; Please

Also, we are going in mid December. Does the sun go down about 6:00? And will the temp be about 55 high and 32 low?

The only other I would say in TN is Smyrna, Sharp Springs which is right down the road from Cedar Hill.

Sunset in mid-December is about 5:15 in Columbia, SC....a few minutes later in Augusta.

Those temps are about right, as averages. If you're lucky you'll catch the upside, with highs in the 60s.

Last winter was pretty brutal...many days in the 20s here and highs not much higher than 40s but who knows what is going to happen this year...it could be 60 in December...

I'm not sure where Indian Creek is in Alabama, But if you are going through Birmingham I would recommend George Ward. You've pretty much covered all the bases in Augusta. If you go to the IDGC, take a lunch. There isn't much around it in the way of Food. Riverview is nice! I really enjoyed it! I haven't made it to Hippo or Pine valley yet, they are next on my list. Dave is right about the daylight, you may need a couple days to do Augusta and get those courses in during daylight hours. Unless you get a real early start.

If you do break it up over two days, then you should add Lake Olmstead to your list. It's real close to Riverview. Like within a mile as the crow flies.

Take your time at the IDGC. We played all three in one day, and it was a bit much, although this was at the end of June. The heat was brutal. Also, if you're a beer drinker, the Aiken Brewing Company is a terrific brewpub. I could have turned my disc golf trip into a beer drinking vacation and never left the place. Aiken's not too far from Augusta, and is a cool little town.

Oh, yeah, Lake Olmstead. Definitely worth a visit while you're in Augusta. Not as grueling as IDGC or Hippodrome, lots of fun, a real change of pace from the wooded courses, and a decent chance of losing a disc or two in the lake.

Weather in winter tends to be about 3 days of cold (by which I mean, high low 40s, low mid 20s), 3 days of mild (high low 60s, low upper 30s), repeat. Just your luck of the draw as to which spell you arrive for.

Between the distance from everywhere else, and the 4+ hours it takes to play, it's going to be tough to do anything other than Flyboy on the day you play there -- especially given that the daylight hours will be pretty short that time of year. Driving time from Flyboy to Sandy Creek Park in Athens is about 2.5 hours, and you'd be hard pressed to get done at Flyboy in under about 5.5 (including time take in the place and enjoy some of Lillian's food), so that's a full eight hours right there. Not discouraging you from playing it -- it's absolutely worth it, even if it means skipping some other places on your list.

I live in North Augusta, by the Hipp, and that looks like a solid list. The IDGC is a lot of golf for one December day, it will be dark by 6. The weather is usually fairly decent here in December. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'd like to get some golf in with you, but I work retail, and December is very busy, major OT.

My brother lives in Rolla, MO, and I made a similar drive this summer. Bud Hill IS A MUST! Sandy Creek is very good, Lake Russell is good also, as is Warrior Run. The Sinks in Chattanooga was great, and also Veterans Park in Tupelo was sweet, IMO. Also, Earlewood Park, in Columbia, SC is a great old school course.
