Default Kiosk/Sign Board Design

We are in the process of redesigning and vastly improving the course at the Eagle County Fairgrounds in Eagle, Colorado and, as part of the improvements, we are building and installing a large info board/kiosk at the start of the course.

The Eagle County government will provide funding and materials for the project but we are responsible for giving them the design and materials list.

What we're looking for is a large, rectangular, two-legged sign board with a small, pitched roof and plexiglass cover. I've uploaded some photos to an album as examples of some of the various features we're looking for.

I'd like to hear from those of you who may have experience with either building or designing a functional and attractive sign board and, if possible, take a look at either plans or pictures of your handiwork.

We're very excited to get this project finished and we're certain that is aspect of the build will be a major part of this course's rejuvenation.

Thanks for your help!

Build a roof to keep the rain off and some sun off. Set up a piece of marine grade plywood between two 6x6 post and you should be good. If you want plexiglass put a frame on a piano hinge with a lock. keep it in place with a wood frame. it would be easier to have two pieces

The north side of the kiosk gets less sun, so things will fade slower there.

I like the map to be oriented so that a person standing in front of it is looking in the direction that is up on the map. Preferably, also toward the bulk of the course.

Players will take a photo of the map with their phone to carry and refer to during the round. If you can reduce their own reflection, it works better. Use non-reflective glass or make sure the player won't be standing in the sun taking a picture of a map in the shade. Also, try not to have the shade line of the kiosk roof slash diagonally across the map. Cameras can't handle that much contrast.

(Sometimes these are not all possible at once.)

Make sure the numbers and wording on the map are large enough to read on a phone screen when the photo of the map is zoomed in to show the entire longest hole.

The area around the kiosk can get muddy. A wide board about a foot off the ground from post to post gives players a place to set things down while fishing for their phone or bug spray. Also helps stability of the kiosk.

If you're needing any help with course mapping, I've done a couple of simple-looking maps for different courses. This is my home course:
