I would link it but self referential threads could create a sequential vortex resulting in a black hole of sorts. :/

Chris Woj started the initial discussion regarding Teh_Wood's claim of 2000+ played in this thread.

The two things that set off people's alarms about Teh Wood's played courses was that several of them were private ones that the owners don't recollect him visiting. The other, and more obvious one was that several of the marked as played courses we're very recent installations scattered all about the country, and some of them were the crap of the crap that not even the locals visit, meanwhile some better courses that do get played, and have been in the ground for awhile, somehow got missed.

It was as if he had just used the nearest courses feature to find the next course to click off, with no consideration of the course's vital statistics, or any actual recollection if he had actually been there. It was about getting his count up, nothing more.

Actually i did, I was just pilfering names from the parts of this thread close to my post without either looking up the list or reading the whole thing. (fancy that)

We discussed the state of Wisconsin dg among other things.

According to DGCR yes I have but I am actually 18 courses short when you remove the 3 hole practice courses, Kops Park, single basket locations, and a few others that don't constitute a new course (like when a course changes 3 or 4 holes) but the rest remains the same but has a new DGCR entry.

My 1000th will be played April 29th at Harmony Bends in Columbia Missouri. Conveniently the day after the GBO for anyone heading east you can stop in for a 1 round flex start C Tier.

It's amazing how many of the people in the 500+ club have either no PDGA rating or a pretty low rating for playing that many courses. I have only played around 25 courses and have a 841 player rating (only played 1 pdga event). However if someone has the time to play 500+ courses, you would think they have the time to play PDGA events and or be "better than someone who hasn't played many. I would be more impressed with a 1000 rated player than a player who has played 1000 courses anyday...IMO.

Plus with the PDGA rating, you know it's real.
With the 1000 courses on DGCR, one can just click "course played" with no actual proof.

I hate to break this to you, but 90% of the disc golf going on in the world has nothing to with the PDGA. The very success of this site, and how the directory here pretty much supplanted the PDGA's, as the go to one that people reference is evidence of that.

Besides that, the DGCR course bagger, and the PDGA competitive player aren't necessarily into this game for the same thing. Disc golf is different things to different people.

You should join the Hosfeld fan club. One of the first players to reach 1,000, and a World Champion.

Otherwise, with one presumed exception, they're not trying to impress you, anyway. I've met a bunch of these folks, and it's easy to see why they're not 1000-rated, or playing lots of tournaments. You might as well say, How can someone who's been playing and working on his game for 23 years---who lives on a disc golf course, for goodness sake---be only 876 rated? As scarpfish said, disc golf is different things to different people.

Most of your veteran course designers are PDGA members and have played many courses. Veteran course designer and former multiple World Champ, Gregg Hosfeld was the the most notable 1000 rated player who played 1000 courses with his 1000th course played with Ben Calhoun's 1000th at the PDGA HQ in Georgia. There are probably 20 or more touring pros with ratings over 1000 at one time who have played over 500 courses but haven't taken the time to post their counts on DGCR.
